England’s 20 year old Danny Reed and Marios Yiangou, 19 years old, were the players to impress in the second round of the Men’s Singles event at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi on Monday 11th October 2010.
Both excelled to beat players who have had the honour of being anointed continental champions. Equally, both displayed a distinct appetite for competing in major international events and clearly indicated the fact that they can progress to a higher level.
Mature Performances
Attacking quickly and playing with a high level of consistency, Danny Reed who had not been selected for England in the latter stages of the Men’s Team event, defeated the more Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna.
Darius Knight Impressive
The victories recorded by Danny Reed and Marios Yiangou were to two of most note, the one other in the Men’s Singles second round being that of England’s 20 year old Darius Knight. He overcame the experienced Monday Merotohun.
Otherwise, matters went very much according to plan.
In both the Men’s and Women’s Singles second round contests, the top four seeds progressed relatively untroubled.
