The English Table Tennis Association’s selection committee has picked a full-strength squad to head to the Commonwealth Championships in New Delhi, India 5-10th May 2013.

Both sides feature players who have been heavily involved in the recent European Championships Qualifiers with the men represented by Paul Drinkhall, Liam Pitchford, Andrew Baggaley and Daniel Reed, while the women’s team comprises of Joanna Parker, Kelly Sibley, Hannah Hicks and Tin-Tin Ho.

The English squad will be looking for their first Commonwealth Championships gold medal since Matthew Syed won the men’s singles in 2001 (coincidentally also in New Delhi). There was also a doubles gold for Terry Young and Alex Perry that year.

In fact, the last British players to return triumphant were the Welsh pair of Adam Robertson and ‘Grand Prix King’ Ryan Jenkins in Kuala Lumpur, 2004.

As a pre-cursor to the Commonwealth Games taking place in Glasgow 2014, it will be the perfect stage for the squad to test their strength against their closest rivals.
