Evie Collier in action in Korea

Evie Collier found world No 61 Bernadette Szocs too tough as she bowed out in the last 32 of the World University Games in Gwangju, Korea.

The 20-year-old Nottingham Trent University student, representing GB alongside Sean Doherty of Scotland, took the first set against her high-ranking opponent but then saw Szocs turn the screw to reel off the next four. Szocs would go on to reach the semi-finals.

In the mixed doubles, Collier & Doherty were beaten by Pontus Roose & Maria Engelson of Sweden.

Doherty gained revenge over Roose in the Men’s Singles, but was eliminated in the group stage.
