Evie Collier competed against some top European players at the Swiss Open.

The 21-year-old Brentwood player lined up against world No 97 Carole Grundisch of France, No 237 Deborah Vivarelli of Italy and Denmark’s No 333 Stefanie Christensen in the group stage.

She came close to upsetting Vivarelli, losing 3-2, and was beaten 3-0 in her other two matches.

The event in Lausanne was strong, with world No 53 Xiaoxin Yang of Monaco beating No 38 Georgina Pota of Hungary in five games in the final.

The men’s event was event stronger as world No 5 Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany beat No 8-ranked Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus in seven games in the final, with No 11 Marcos Freitas of Portugal third.
