Sizzling Hogg ‘roasts’ Rowhedge B.

Martin Hogg turned in his best performance of the season against H20 Rowhedge B as he led Tollgate B to a close 6-4 win in Division One of the Colchester and District Table Tennis League.

His three victims were Kevin Gowlett, John Andrews and late stand in for David Moss, Martin Edwards. The teams are now locked in joint fourth place as the top two won yet again to maintain their one hundred per cent records. Rowhedge’s A team won 10-0 for the fourth time, their victims this week Walton A. Tollgate did not have things all their own way at Rowhedge’s ‘C’ team and it was their young star, Jason Yung that led the way taking the ‘player of the match’ mantle with three sparkling wins. His team eventually won 7-3 but the gap increased to ten points meaning that when the pair meets the pressure will be on the Holmwood House School based team.

This was scheduled to take place this week but the match has been postponed as Tollgate once again struggle with player availabilities. At the foot of the table neither of the bottom two teams could gain an advantage as Walton B and Gt Horkesley C drew 5-5. Gary Young once again won three as no game went to five sets.

In Division Two Pegasus B were the big movers going up two places to fifth, as they beat Tollesbury A 7-3 to jump over them. Clive Forster and Steve Noble were the men in form, both winning three although the pair slipped up in the doubles, going down in five sets to Paul Freeman & Roger Clarke who won one each.

Draw specialists Clairmont finally lost their unbeaten record losing 8-2 to leaders Walton C. George Kalli won three, including a five set defeat of Paul Tracey, who won two. Tollgate C are the surprise package as they stay third after being held to a 5-5 draw by H20 Rowhedge D. Alan Burgess won another maximum including victory over arch rival Martyn Green in three cleverly crafted sets.

Lawford D’s 10-0 whitewashing of Gt Horkesley E keeps them a point clear of second placed St James A who won 8-2 at Dedham A. Peter Freeborough, Mark Seymour and John Seabrook were all unbeaten for Lawford, matched by Terry May and Tony Oswick for the Clacton based St James.

No fewer than ten of Ferdy Rodriguez twelve sets played were won by only two points as he picked up just one win despite his herculean efforts!

Gt Horkesley D are third, eleven points back with a game in hand after another big win, 9-1. Steve Holland and Peter Witton won three apiece and joined forces to beat the division’s strongest doubles pairing of Daryl Lott and Jermaine Fearon, who were previously unbeaten for H20 Rowhedge G.

Tollesbury B are fourth, despite going down 6-4 at home to lowly Pegasus E. Tom Lewis won three for the Blackwater team. Pegasus C and Pegasus D played out a 5-5 draw with star man Tony Eversden winning three for the ‘C’ team. Chester Chung and Oliver Pink were the main men for the University of Essex as their team beat H20 Rowhedge H 8-2.

Tollgate D are back on top of Division Four as their top player Alan Smith completed a maximum in an 8-2 win at Pegasus F. Both Gilberd teams go up one place, the ‘A’ team following a 5-5 deadlock at home to Lawford C and the ‘B’ team a fine 7-3 victory at Lawford’s D team. School team number ones; Evaldas Ablonskis and Dan Rhodes both won three apiece.
