H20 ROWHEDGE RETAIN TITLE FOR FOURTH SUCCESSIVE YEAR!

H20 Rowhedge A beat Tollgate B 10-0 and in doing so retained their Colchester and District Table Tennis League Division One title. Michael Andrews and Antony Greenwood with fifty-three wins apiece head the table for games won and Steve Joslin, despite some unfortunate circumstances that saw him miss some early season games averaged nearly ninety per cent. The game that clinched their title was fittingly the doubles that has seen Andrews and Greenwood unbeaten all-season, winning eighteen consecutive encounters! Helping their colleagues to wrap up the title a game early were H20 Rowhedge B who won the first six games against previous title contenders Gt Horkesley A. John Andrews and David Moss rolled back the years, both completing maximums and Kevin Gowlett picked up two just missing out to the impressive Aimee Sparkes game 10 in the fifth end. This sets up a fascinating final fixture for Gt Horkesley as they are joint second with Tollgate A and the pair meet this week to decide the runners-up spot! Gt Horkesley B and Walton B are relegated, the seaside team losing 9-1 in their final match with Martin Hogg and Sue Welham both unbeaten for Tollgate B.

Tollgate C are promoted to Division One with Lawford A being unable to beat St James B. The pair fought out a 5-5 draw, Keiron Hills completing a fine maximum but despite his efforts his team miss out by just three points. Tollgate’s success at the first attempt was mainly down to skipper Jane Li’s rise from Division Four, being ever-present in winning thirty-five games at over sixty per cent, a remarkable performance at the age of just twelve! Walton C had already clinched the Division Two title and they celebrated in style beating relegated H20 Rowhedge F 9-1. George Kalli and John Rice both won three with Colin Powell picking up a good consolation win over Paul Woolnough. H20 Rowhedge E finish fourth after beating bottom placed St Peters 7-3 with Martin Edwards undefeated.

St James C join Lawford B in the promotion spots in Division Three as they accounted for Tollesbury B 7-3. Terry May completed a fine season winning his three with Tom Lewis winning two for the visitors also making a name for himself in his first term at Tollesbury. Gt Horkesley D finish third with Steve Holland completing yet another treble this time against H20 Rowhedge H in a 5-5 draw that sees their team stay up by just one point! Alice Rudge completed a good season for her winning two as did skipper Oli Reynolds. Holland was joined by Phil Wolski unbeaten in a 7-3 win at home to Pegasus D. Pegasus E are relegated along with Gt Horkesley E.

St James D despite losing 7-3 at Lawford D are division Four champions as Peter Sear won three as his team finished ninth. CRGS join them, promoted with Gt Horkesley F suffering shortages all season, finishing bottom.
