Allen keeps up the family tradition

It was a different Denyer who hit the headlines this week with Allen Denyer producing the outstanding performance in Division Three of the Clacton and District Table Tennis League.

The Brotherhood I skipper took an excellent hat-trick as his side defeated Windsor Swallows 6-4, Denyer taking the scalps of Angela Barratt, Malcolm Caley and Iris Howlett, and sharing a crucial doubles victory with James Smith-Daye.

The result puts Brotherhood I top of the table alongside club-mates Brotherhood J, 7-3 winners over Nomads Pumas, Tom Burton and Kelvin Olano staying unbeaten although Olano was pushed hard by Alan Dockerill before winning 10-12, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-9.

There was a maximum for Pete Miller of Nomads Wildcats against Brotherhood K, but two each from Brian Baines, Rob Bright and Pete Bloomfield gave Brotherhood the 7-3 win.

No-one stayed unbeaten but every player picked up a point in the draw between Brotherhood M and Nomads Leopards, Nomads’ Roger McNaughton losing to Vicky Edwards and then 16-14 in the fifth to Gracie Edwards but unexpectedly defeating Cris Edwards

Barry Brandon and Harry Hawkes won three each as Nomads Bobcats beat Brotherhood L 8-2, Brotherhood junior Jonathan Found beating super-veteran Harry Barlow 12-10 in the fifth.

Gerald Batt and Michael Gallone took trebles for Brotherhood H in their 8-2 success over Nomads Lynx whilst, in the all-Windsor clash, Windsor Penguins beat Windsor Kites 10-0, Jackie Bunce recording her first-ever League hat-trick.

In Division One’s top match, Nomads Panthers beat Windsor Condors 6-4, James Denyer’s treble for the winners including a victory in three over Gary Young, Windsor’s John Pattrick beating Colin Webber 11-8 in the decider in the closest match of the night.

Walton B’s Graham Buxton enjoyed success over Martyn Green but otherwise it was full steam ahead for Brotherhood A who emerged comfortable 9-1 winners and now head the early-season table.

Walton A took advantage of an off-night from club-mates Walton B and inflicted a 10-0 defeat, Colin Dearman’s 11-7 in the fifth win over Jason Gale the only match that went the distance.

There was a hat-trick for Stewart Murray and two each for Martin Edwards and John Owen as Brotherhood B edged past Walton D

7-3, Owen beating George Kalli 11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 6-11, 12-10.

Windsor Kestrels won all four matches that went to five to pick up a welcome 8-2 victory against Nomads Jaguars, Chris Petrou playing well to stay unbeaten, whilst Windsor Eagles beat Nomads Lions

10-0, John Hobson defeating John Weller 13-11 in the fifth.

Lawford lead the way in Division Two after their 10-0 win over Brotherhood E, Ian Sherwood picking up a treble whilst Richard Spence maintained his hundred per cent record.

Paul Hume’s couple for Nomads Cougars included a 6-11, 11-9,

13-11, 12-14, 11-9 win over Ian Fielder of Windsor Harriers, his first defeat of the season, but two each from Fielder and Jenny Higgins helped the Harriers to a 7-3 match victory.

Finally, a Dave Martin maximum was the centre-piece of Windsor Magpies’ 6-4 win over Brotherhood F, Graham Bunce contributing a couple for the Magpies, David North winning two for Brotherhood.
