Meikle unbeaten in Walton battle

Paul Meikle of Walton C has proved one of the most consistent players over recent seasons in Division One of the Clacton and District Table Tennis League and his good early-season form continued this week against club-mates Walton D.

Meikle remained unbeaten, recording victories over George Kalli, Paul Woolnough and Kevin James, to lead Walton C to a merited 6-4 win, Jason Gale contributing two points and Mark Gale one.

All three of the ‘D’ team players picked up a win whilst Kalli and Woolnough enjoyed a close 11-9 in the fifth doubles success against Meikle and Mark Gale.

Elsewhere in Division One, it was 7-3 for Windsor Condors against Windsor Eagles with Colin Stallwood and Gary Cattermole undefeated, but Brotherhood A’s 10-0 victory over Nomads Jaguars was more straightforward, only one match extended to a fourth set.

Annabelle Rodriguez recorded a fine maximum as Windsor Hawks beat Windsor Kestrels 7-3, Andy Vincent and Felipe Rodriguez each taking a couple for the Hawks although Rodriguez surprisingly lost to Kestrels’ reserve John Harvey.

Brotherhood B beat Nomads Lions 8-2, winning four of the five matches that went the distance, Stewart Murray undefeated for the victors, John Weller taking the two points for the losers.

It was also 7-3 for Lawford against Brotherhood F, Richard Spence unbeaten, with Brotherhood’s Barry Allen defeating Ian Sherwood 11-9 in the fifth but just losing 12-10 in the decider to Peter Sear.

In Division Three hat-tricks for James Smith-Daye and John Wrigley helped Brotherhood I to a 9-1 win against Nomads Leopards, Nomads’ skipper Tony Rayner beating Rowan Cottee but going down 12-10 in the fifth to Wrigley.

There were two each for Angela Barratt and Sheila Howe of Windsor Swallows in the draw with Nomads Pumas, John Bowers denying Sheila her hat-trick with a 14-12, 6-11, 10-12, 11-9, 12-10 win,  Alan Dockerill beating Angela 12-10, 10-12, 11-6, 11-13, 13-11.

Windsor Penguins beat Nomads Lynx 7-3, Ray Chillingworth undefeated for the Penguins and Sue Chillingworth involved in three tough battles, losing 12-10 in the fifth to both Kevin Hume and Aaron McGurl but beating Tom Collins 16-14 in the decider.

Brotherhood J were 7-3 winners over Brotherhood K, Tom Burton and Kelvin Olano taking trebles although Olano struggled before defeating Pete Bloomfield 16-14 in the fifth.

Brotherhood H recorded their first win of the season, 9-1 against Brotherhood L and although Tom Wilkin, David Wilkin and Gerald Batt all took hat-tricks, Jonathan and Debra Found had the satisfaction of an unexpected doubles’ win over the two Wilkins.
