Kevin James was the star of the show in Division One of the Clacton and District League with a high-class hat-trick for Walton D in their match against reigning champions Windsor Condors.

James’ treble included an 11-5 in the fifth victory over Gary Cattermole and an 11-8 in the decider win against Colin Stallwood and, with Kevin Gowlett also staying unbeaten, Walton chalked up an impressive 7-3 victory.

There was another Walton success against a Windsor side, Walton A comfortably defeating the Kestrels 10-0, only one match being extended to a fourth set.

Nomads Panthers maintained their unbeaten record with a straightforward 10-0 win against a Walton B team forced to field two guest players. The Panthers are now twelve points clear at the top of the table and they will start the second-half season as favourites to take a first-ever Division One title for the Nomads Club.

In Division Two Lawford continued their title challenge with a 7-3 win over Windsor Harriers, Paul Hewitt taking three, and Ian Sherwood and Richard Spence two each. Ian Fielder won two points for the Harriers, defeating Spence in three-straight but struggling before edging out an inspired Sherwood 11-5, 9-11, 11-4, 10-12, 16-14.

The much-improved Darren Bunce took a maximum as Nomads Tigers beat Brotherhood E 7-3, his three including an 11-5 in the decider win over Rodney Betts. Simon Smith-Daye also took three although he had to be at his best to overcome Tony Edmonds 11-7 in the fifth.

Smith-Daye also stayed unbeaten in the Tigers’ second match, this against Nomads Cougars, but two each from Paul Hume, Sam Hume and Adam Cuthbert saw the Cougars home 7-3.

* In Round One of the Handicap Knock-Out Cup Nomads Pumas were given a run for their money before beating Windsor Kites 5-3, Alan Dockerill staying unbeaten. The closest match of the tie saw Dockerill (-8) beat Carl Hubbard (+2) 0-11, 14-12, 12-10, 7-11,

13-11.

With the scores level at 3-all, Nomads Leopards looked as though they might cause an upset against Brotherhood I, but Brotherhood took the next two singles to go through 5-3.

However Brotherhood L did cause a minor shock, 5-1 winners against Windsor Swallows, Jonathan Found and Morgan Harvey unbeaten.

Windsor Penguins were ahead 2-0 against Brotherhood H but Brotherhood fought back to win 5-3, Tom Wilkin’s (-5) 8-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9 win over Sue Chillingworth (+1) proving crucial.

In the all-Nomads clash, Division Two Ocelots defeated Division Three Bobcats 5-2, Andy North playing well to stay undefeated in his two doubles and one singles.

The revised draw for Round Two of the Cup is :
