SIXTH MAXIMUM FOR BROTHERHOOD’S FRED

Brotherhood G’s number one player Fred Gallone produced a top-class performance this week in Division Three of the Clacton and District Table Tennis League.

In a typically hard-fought, mid-table clash, Gallone picked up his sixth hat-trick of the season as Brotherhood G defeated Brotherhood H 7-3.

Team-mate James Smith-Daye took a couple including an 11-6 in the fifth win over David Wilkin, and although Rowan Cottee took only one, he suffered two narrow defeats, 7-11 in the fifth to Gerald Batt and 9-11 in the decider to Tom Wilkin.

Elsewhere, Doug Green and Simon Smith-Daye were unbeaten in Nomads Tigers’ 8-2 victory over Nomads Pumas whilst three from Paul Hume, two from Peter Miller and one from Harry Beezer saw Nomads Cougars to a 7-3 win against Windsor Penguins

Windsor Swallows proved too good for Nomads Leopards, winning 10-0, the same score by which Brotherhood K beat Brotherhood L, and by which Brotherhood J defeated Windsor Kites, Lucy Burton and Morgan Harvey both taking hat-tricks in the latter match.

In Division One Windsor Condors moved top alongside Brotherhood A following their 8-2 win over Walton C, Gary Young and Andy Holmes unbeaten.

Kevin Gowlett also stayed undefeated for Walton A but his under-strength team could only draw with Windsor Eagles.

Brotherhood B beat Walton B 7-3 although Walton preserved their better-than-average doubles record against a Brotherhood side who have won just two doubles all season, Claude Snell and Paul Newbould beating Martin Edwards and John Owen in four.

Nomads Panthers, playing with a guest, beat lowly Windsor Kestrels 7-3, Colin Webber defeating Bob Sawyer 11-5 in the decider in the closest match of the evening.

Terry Kirby took a hat-trick for Nomads Jaguars but his team still lost 6-4 to Windsor Falcons, Mark Salter taking two points for the Falcons including a 13-11 in the fifth win over Colin Beaumont.

In Division Two Windsor Harriers gained revenge for their Cup reverse the previous week by beating Nomads Lions 6-4, Terry May unbeaten, whilst there were hat-tricks also for Kevin Pryor and Lawrence Torr as Brotherhood C defeated Brotherhood E 7-3.

Leaders Walton D beat Brotherhood F 10-0 with something to spare

but it was a lot tighter for Windsor Magpies, 6-4 winners over a Brotherhood D side fielding a guest player, Dave Martin securing the Magpies’ win with a 13-11 in the fifth victory against Paul Alden.

Three for Gary Stallwood and two for Adam Jackson helped Windsor Owls to a 7-3 victory over Nomads Lynx, Angela Barratt picking up one point for the Owls and unlucky to lose out 11-4 in the fifth to Denise Thompson and 13-11 in the decider to Simon Smith-Daye.

Finally, no-one stayed unbeaten as Windsor Ravens edged out Lawford 6-4, Brian Thiel’s couple including a fine win over Lawford’s top player Richard Spence, whilst Spence denied Isabel Barton a notable treble, winning their individual match 11-8 in the fifth.

* In Round Four of the Handicap Knock-Out Cup, joint-favourites Brotherhood A and Windsor Roosters have been drawn against Division Two sides Windsor Hawks and Nomads Lions respectively.

The full draw is Nomads Jaguars v Brotherhood B; Windsor Roosters v Nomads Lions; Brotherhood A v Windsor Hawks; Walton D v Nomads Lynx.
