Roosters aiming for the top

Windsor Roosters have emerged as genuine contenders for the Clacton and District Table Tennis League’s Division One title and they continued their quest for the crown with a hard-fought 7-3 win over Nomads Panthers.

James Denyer stayed unbeaten for the Roosters, in the process showing a marked lack of maternal respect in defeating Gill Locke 11-8, 11-13, 11-9, 12-10, whilst Mark Smith took two and Gary Cattermole one.

The closest match of the evening saw Smith edge past Rob Bozier

11-9 in the decider.

Meanwhile, title rivals Windsor Condors brushed aside Windsor Kestrels 10-0, but champions Brotherhood A are increasingly looking the team to beat, this week overcoming a weakened

Walton A 8-2, John Andrews winning his three.

It was also 8-2 for Windsor Eagles against Walton B, Fred Button and Phil Smith unbeaten, as were Martin Edwards and Stewart Murray for Brotherhood B against Walton C in yet another 8-2 scoreline.

In Division Two, Windsor Harriers gave Walton D a run for their money but the Divisional leaders eventually triumphed 7-3, John Rice staying undefeated for Walton whilst Ferdy Rodriguez enjoyed unexpected success for the Harriers against Paul Woolnough.

John Stubbings made a welcome return to League action in the colours of Brotherhood F and, although he battled well to beat Dave Austin, second-placed Windsor Hawks took the match 9-1.

Brotherhood D beat Windsor Ravens 8-2, Paul Alden’s three including a 12-10 in the fifth win against Brian Thiel, the same score by which his team-mate Russell Hillier beat John Long – and the same score by which Long then went on to beat Shaun Beckham!

Nomads Lions were 7-3 winners against Windsor Magpies, John Weller taking three and John Fenton two, Dave Martin beating Fenton 11-8 in the fifth to deny the treble.

Gary Stallwood was undefeated for Windsor Owls against Brotherhood C but Brotherhood took the match 7-3, Kevin Pryor, Lawrence Torr and Chris Smith each winning twice.

And Lawford proved too good for Nomads Lynx, Ian Sherwood recording his first hat-trick of the season in the 10-0 win.

In Division Three, trebles for Dan Malinowski and Elliott Attrill saw Brotherhood K to a 9-1 success over Nomads Leopards, Norman Jacobs’ win against Brian Baines the Leopards’ sole point.

Brotherhood J beat Windsor Penguins 7-3, Tom Burton notching up a hat-trick for the winners but Kelvin Olano surprisingly failing to do the same, losing to Ray Chillingworth 11-7 in the fifth.

Three for Paul Hume and two for Sam Hume helped Nomads Cougars to a 6-4 win over Brotherhood L, whilst Brotherhood H beat Windsor Swallows by the same score, Adam Wilkin unbeaten for the victors and Iris Howlett playing well to take two for the losers.

Finally, Nomads Pumas beat Windsor Kites 10-0, all the matches settled in three-straight, whilst there was another whitewash result as Brotherhood G beat Nomads Bobcats, Harry Barlow stretching Rowan Cottee to five as did Tom Collins against James Smith-Daye.
