Condors Crash Out Of Cup
Holders Windsor Condors fell at the first fence in this season’s Handicap Knock-Out Cup, beaten 5-3 by Division Two side Brotherhood F.

The Brotherhood trio of Paul Alden, Lee Harvey and Russell Hillier proved too good on the night and converted a 4-1 interval lead into a deserved 5-3 final score to produce the shock result of the second round.

Two other sides from Division Two also beat teams from the top flight, pride of place going to Nomads Lions, 5-3 winners over high-flying Walton A, John Hatley (+1) administering the coup de grace against Matthew Watson (-8) in a five-setter in match eight.

Nomads Lynx also upset the form-book when they defeated Windsor Falcons in a 5-4 nail-biter, Paul Weston, Mike Vilka and Vic Little combining well in an excellent team effort for the Lynx.

Elsewhere, three teams from Division One made it through to the next round at the expense of Division Two sides – although Windsor Eagles were indebted to an undefeated performance from Phil Smith to guide them to a tight 5-4 victory over Brotherhood E.

Four of the matches went the distance including the final doubles in which Fred Button and Sue Welham (-10) edged out Mark Beckham and Tony Edmonds (+2) 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 10-12, 11-9.

Meanwhile, David Hall was unbeaten as Walton C defeated Lawford 5-3, as was Brian Parish as Nomads Jaguars overcame

Brotherhood C by the same score.

Last season’s losing finalists Red Triangle B, this year playing as Walton B, went down 5-2 to Brotherhood B, but the match was closer than the scoreline suggests, Brotherhood winning two of the  matches 12-10 in the fifth and another 11-7 in the fifth.

In two other all-Division One matches, Brotherhood A beat Nomads Panthers 5-1, whilst Gary Cattermole stayed unbeaten as Windsor Roosters ran out 5-2 winners against Windsor Kestrels, Bob Sawyer making a welcome, though unsuccessful, return for the Kestrels.

In the first of two all-Windsor, all-Second Division clashes,

Ravens’ captain Isabel Barton (+1) had the satisfaction of defeating husband John (-5) in their individual match but the Hawks ultimately triumphed 5-2.

The Harriers led the Owls 3-0 at one stage but, after a tremendous scrap, the match went to the final doubles, Terry May and Ian Fielder (0) clinching it 5-4 for the Harriers with a 7-11, 5-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-5 win over Gary Stallwood and Tricia Salter (0).

The youngsters of Division Three side Brotherhood J proved too energetic for the second division ‘oldies’ of Windsor Magpies and took the tie 5-1 but Division Two Brotherhood F were too good for the Windsor Kites, also winning 5-1.

Finally, in two ties between teams from Division Three,

Brotherhood L’s Jordan Blanche-Price, Lisa Baird and Debra Found unexpectedly beat Nomads Cougars 5-3 whilst Windsor Penguins had a surprise 5-0 success against Nomads Pumas.
