James on song.

When he’s good he’s very good – and this week Kevin James was very good, staying undefeated in Walton D’s match with title contenders Brotherhood A in Division One of the Clacton and District Table Tennis League.

James enjoyed excellent wins over John Andrews and Alan Burgess before beating Greg Green 3-2 (12-10, 10-12, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5) in the final match of the evening, a performance which, alas, could not prevent his side going down 6-4.

Elsewhere, champions Windsor Condors – without Gary Young – drew with Windsor Hawks, Felipe Rodriguez taking two for the Hawks, Andy Vincent  and John Barton one each, and sharing an

11-9 in the fifth doubles win against Jim Pallett and John Pattrick.

Nomads Panthers beat Windsor Kestrels 9-1, Gill Locke and Colin Webber undefeated although Webber struggled before beating Terry May 3-2 (11-9, 8-11, 14-16, 11-6, 12-10).

Five matches went the distance but Walton C edged it 6-4 against Brotherhood B, Mark Gale and Jason Gale taking two each for Walton, as did John Owen and Martin Edwards for Brotherhood.

Walton A made short work of Nomads Lions, winning 10-0 with only Colin Dearman’s 3-2 (13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-13, 11-5) victory over John Weller stretched to a fifth set.

Colin Beaumont of Nomads Jaguars notched up a good victory over

Walton B’s Gavin Price but Walton B won 9-1, Paul Newbould and Graham Buxton both undefeated for the winners.

Nomads Cougars are setting the pace in Division Two Paul and Sam Hume recording hat-tricks in a convincing 9-1 victory over a Brotherhood E side, their third 9-1 defeat this season.

A treble from Richard Spence, including a win against Dave Martin, gave Lawford a share of the spoils with Windsor Magpies, Graham Bunce playing well to take two for the Magpies.

There were a couple each for Paul Alden, Shaun Beckham and Russell Hillier in Brotherhood D’s 7-3 victory over Nomads Tigers, Simon Smith-Daye’s taking a hat-trick for the Tigers.

Windsor Ravens, fielding a guest player, lost 8-2 to Windsor Harriers, the closest match of the evening seeing Ravens’ captain Isabel Barton beat Jenny Higgins 13-11 in the decider.

Reserve players featured for both Brotherhood C and Nomads Ocelots but three from Laurence Torr, and two each from Fred Gallone and Kelvin Olano, gave Brotherhood the 8-2 match win.

Hat-tricks from David North and Barry Allen were the features of Brotherhood F’s 9-1 success against Brotherhood G.

Rowan Cottee was in good form in Division Three staying unbeaten in Brotherhood I’s draw with Brotherhood M, a good result for the ‘I’ team who had to field a guest player.

Brotherhood J beat Brotherhood H 7-3, Tom Burton and Kelvin Olano undefeated, as were Alan Dockerill and Lionel Goddard in Nomads Pumas’ 9-1 win over Brotherhood L, Brotherhood’s Debra Found playing well to beat John Houghton close in five.

Harry Hawkes took a treble in Nomads Bobcats’ 6-4 win over Windsor Swallows, Andrew Cousins contributing a couple for the Bobcats, Iris Howlett taking two for the Swallows.

Three for Brian Friday, two for Pete Miller and one for Hazel Blanche gave Nomads Wildcats a 6-4 win against Windsor Penguins, whilst the Leopards beat the Kites 10-0, Norman Jacobs unbeaten.
