OCs B took a giant step towards winning division two in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League.

David Cole and Kevin Worthington were both undefeated as they beat Chelmsford C 8-2 – a result that sees Chelmsford slip back to fourth. Worthington in particular was on top form racing to wins against Mike Johnston (11-8, 11-13, 11-5), Waseem Qureshi (11-9, 11-7, 11-6) and Wiktor Delimat (11-6, 11-13, 12-10, 11-7).

Maldon B are second and Hamish Innes led them to a 6-4 win over OCs C. Gareth Joice showed up well for the losers by beating Ciaran Whelan 3-0 (13-11, 11-4, 11-7).

Danbury D have leap-frogged over Chelmsford C into third place and they impressed by beating Danbury E 8-2. Sam Lowman and Cameron Gray were both undefeated. Lowman has hit a rich vein of form and his 86% record illustrates this.

Writtle C also won 8-2 with Gary Ward and Peter Barrett both staying undefeated against Hatfield Peverel B. Guy McKenzie made his mark for Hatfield Peverel with a fine 3-2 (13-15, 11-18, 9-11, 11-6, 12-10) win over Dave Calleja.

Teamwork saw Danbury C home against Maldon C. Neil Want, Dick Wyman and Tim Cramphorn all won twice as they won 7-3. Dawn Baldry won twice for Maldon C which included an excellent 3-0 (11-7, 13-11, 11-6) win over Want.

Division one has split into two halves and the top six teams and the bottom six sides will play each other twice in the second half of the season with points earned in the first half counting as well.

Maldon A are the team to beat in division 1(A) and Trevor Lloyd and Alex Abbott were both undefeated as they overcame Writtle A 9-1. The improving Lee McHugh scored an excellent 3-1 (6-11, 11-9, 11-7, 12-10) victory over John Poysden for the losers.

Galleywood A lead the way in division 1(B) with 57 points and they beat Writtle B 8-2. James Hicks and Steve Kerns were unbeaten for Galleywood whilst Writtle’s Rod Maclennan and Lin Roff both overcame Gary Brignall.

Second-placed Liberal (51 points) ran out 6-4 winners against Hatfield Peverel A. Andy Huckson and Adrian Pitt won twice for the Liberal side whilst Julie Johnson impressed for Hatfield Peverel. She beat Steve Pennell 3-1 (11-1, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7) and Huckson 3-1 (10-12, 11-9, 11-6, 12-10).

OCs D are the new leaders in division three. Their thumping 10-0 win over Maldon D sees them take over at the top of the table, one point ahead of Chelmsford D. Gareth Joice, Mick Hayes and David Porter carried all before them.

Chelmsford D were very hard pushed to beat OCs E 6-4. Connor Payne won his three singles which included two incredibly hard fought games. He beat Richard Baxter 3-2 (11-6, 9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 15-13) and if that wasn’t close enough he also defeated Richard Upson 3-2 (13-11, 2-11, 11-9, 12-14, 14-12). Baxter in turn made his mark with a superb 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 11-7) win over Jarek Pietraszuk.

Trevor Collin led Writtle D to a 7-3 win over Danbury F. Collin’s hat-trick included a rather strange looking 3-2 (11-2, 10-12, 11-4, 3-11, 11-2) win Dave Marsh.

It was honours even between Danbury H and Writtle E in a match where Dave Moles was unbeaten for Writtle E. Peter Hance was undefeated for Danbury G who beat OCs F 6-4. He had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Ashton Parker 3-2 (5-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-9).

Danbury J  (12 wins out of  12) – the runaway leaders in division four – have been the most dominant team in the whole league this season and this week they beat Galleywood B 9-1. Dave Powell retained his 100% singles record but only just. Powell finally edged out Colin Blore 3-2 (11-13, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 16-14). Blore also came very close to beating Rob Kneale before succumbing 3-2 (3-11, 9-11, 12-10, 12-10, 8-11).

Writtle F stay third. David Meah was unbeaten as they defeated Highwood B 8-2. Martin Goddard impressed by beating both Andy Fox and Colin Griffiths.

It was honours shared between Chelmsford E and OCs G. John Newman was unbeaten for the old Chelmsfordians side whilst Dusan Doszkoty pipped Sue Hickman 3-2 (8-11, 8-11, 11-2, 11-6, 15-13) in the closest game of the night.

Danbury K fought back strongly from trailing 4-2 to beat Highwood B 6-4. Denis Balic was the main difference between the two teams and he won his three singles. Roger Tiffin sealed the win for Danbury by beating Frank Neil 3-0 (11-9, 11-4, 11-8 )in the last game of the night.

Chelmsford H defeated Hatfield Peverel D 7-3. Jamie Dowsett and Luke Richardson were both undefeated and Dowsett secured his third victory with a hard earned 3-2 (11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 9-11, 11-7) win over John Kuhl.

Chelmsford F’s 9-1 win over Highwood A flatters them slightly. They won three out of four five-enders. Adi Kamma beat Keith Fitzjohn 3-2 (11-3, 9-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9) whilst Vineeth Kamma scored a superb 3-2 (8-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-13, 12-10) win over Melanie Bonnett.

The leaders Galleywood C were the week’s big winners in division five. Gary Copsey, Aidan Noguchi and Charlie Craig beat Chelmsford J 10-0.

There was a second win for Hatfield Peverel B (John Kuhl, Kath Little and Phil West) who beat OCs H 6-4. None of the Hatfield Peverel players were able to get the better of Stuart Wintle.

Second-placed Chelmsford G ran out 8-2 winners against Maldon E. Sarah Austin remained undefeated.

There are now three CLICK Divisions – testimony to the tireless and enthusiastic coaching that is taking place in and around Chelmsford. Danbury Dragons are off to a flying start in division 2 (A) and Ewan Hynd and Ben Porter were undefeated against Chelmsford Pumas who they beat 5-0.

Chelmsford Rhinos and West Maldon both won 5-0 in division 2 (B). Chelmsford Rhinos (Josh Bickle and Dan Wise) carried all before them against Buttsbury Badgers whilst West Maldon (Noah Sage and Oliver Wylie) were equally dominant against Buttsbury Bulldogs.

The match between Buttsbuty Bears and Danbury Demons was much closer with the Bears winning 3-2. Harry Hutt won his two singles, beating William Ratcliffe 3-2 (10-12, 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7) and Jensen Davis 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 11-8).

Chelmsford Leopards also won 3-2. Cleon Fernandes beat both Tom Bird 3-1 (8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 13-11) and Josh Peasgood 3-1 (11-7, 11-5, 5-11, 11-6).

Danbury Griffins are the early leaders in division 2 (C). Calum Caldwell and Adam Thirkettle beat Buttsbury Bats 5-0. Caldwell fought back from losing the first end to beat Seamus Mellon 3-1 (7-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9).

Chelmsford Wildcats were 4-1 winners against Buttsbury Bees. Ali Ellis-Austin was the dominant player, winning twice, whilst George Hagland overcame Georgina Riches 3-2 (11-13, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9) for the losers.

Buttsbury Beavers ran out 3-2 winners after Oscar Hutt had won both of his singles in dramatic fashion. Both wins were last-gasp affairs. He beat Theo Griffiths 3-2 (11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 7-11, 16-14) and George Spicer 3-2 (0-11, 11-6, 11-7, 5-11, 12-10).
