Lucy Wang hat-trick enables ECC to beat OCs B

ECC A did well to beat OCs B 7-3 in the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. Essex Senior first team player Lucy Wang stole the show and her hat-trick of wins included two absolute hum-dingers. Lucy beat four-times Chelmsford Men’s Singles Champion; Dave Cole 11-8, 11-9, 3-11, 8-11, 11-8 and in her final game she overcame a gung-ho Steve Northcott 6-11, 11-6, 8-11, 14-12, 12-10. Steve Kerns comprehensively 11-6, 11-5, 11-2. Danbury A remain bottom after losing 6-4 to Excalibur A. Excalibur’s Gary Young won his three singles which included a fine 16-14, 10-12, 11-6, 11-8 win over Antony Greenwood. Gary Baker also acquitted himself very well beating Greenwood 11-7, 11-6, 8-11, 4-11, 11 -6.  OCs A have made a good start and this week they gave a very good account of themselves against Bocking, despite losing 6-4. In a match where no one player stayed undefeated Brandon Crouchman scored a superb 11-1, 12-10, 3-11, 9-11, 11-9 win over Paul Davison whilst Davison, the Braintree Mens Singles Champion in 2008, 2009 and 2010 came out on top against the 2011 Champion Peter Hayden – 11-5, 14-12, 8-11, 11-7.

In division two ECC A had James Hicks to thank as they beat Hatfield Peverel A 7-3. Hicks had to dig deep to get the better of John Parodi 11-8, 4-11, 8-11, 11-3, 12-10. Gary Brignall and Simon Webber were both unbeaten as ECC B defeated Hatfield Peverel C 8-2 whilst Hatfield Peverel C fared even worse against Liberal, losing 9-1. Neil Freeman with a fine four-game win over Barry Pritchard was their only winner as Steve Elmes and Steve Pennell both remained undefeated.

Danbury C’s 10-0 whitewash of Chelmsford D in division three was notable not only because Dave Richardson, Ivan Chaplin and Mo Hardy turned in a commanding performance but also because Chaplin’s game against Dave Parker took 54 minutes, even though it was decided 3-0. Chaplin won 12-10, 11-9, 11-8 and the last rally of the match lasted almost five minutes. Danbury E could be a dark-horses in division three. Graham Briggs won his three singles as they beat

OCs D 7-3 whilst Lee McHugh won twice. McHugh wrapped up the night’s proceedings by beating Roy Moore 11-8, 11-9, 12-14, 13-11 in the last game of the night. Danbury B also won 7-3, beating their club-mates – Danbury D and Neil Want led the way with a hat-trick. Herbie Smith fought back from 2-1 down to get the better of Glen Laing 11-9, 11-13, 10-12, 11-6, 12-10.

Chelmsford E had Mark Brown to thank as they beat Hatfield Peverel D 8-2 in division four. Mark Brown won his three singles and he received good support from Bob Francis and Chris Denyer who both won twice.

Mark Brown also showed up well for Chelmsford F in division five, and he was joined by his team-mate Richard Baxter in staying undefeated as Chelmsford F hammered Elmtree Excalibur F 9-1. Wiktor Delimat was Elmtree’s sole winner. He beat Mike Pitt 11-7, 11-5, 11-8. Danbury K were also comprehensive 9-1 winners and they had Norman Hayes and Philip Crudgington undefeated as they beat Chelmsford H 9-1. Jacqui Smith excelled for Chelmsford recording an excellent 3-1 win over Trevor Palmer.

In the CLICK League Black Notley ran out 3-2 winners against ECC G. George Wallace beat both Nathan Blore and Ben Clifford whilst William Brazier won once. He beat Nathan Blore 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.
