Peter Hayden – excellent hat-trick of wins against ECC B

ECC B and OCs A produced a fiercely fought draw this week in the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. Peter Hayden (10 wins out of 11 to date) took top -billing and his excellent hat-trick of wins included a last-gasp 3-2 (12-14, 11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 14-12) victory over John Holland and a 3-0 win over Rik James.  ECC ‘s Alistair Hill also made his mark and he beat Brandon Crouchman 3-1 (9-11, 14-12, 11-8, 11-9).

OCs were without Hayden against Maldon A but they nevertheless won 6-4 to consolidate second place. Terry Dowsett had a mixed night. He lost 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 11-6) to Hamish Innes but he hit back by beating Paul Sayer 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-8). Maldon A also missed out 6-4 against ECC A who are in third place. The 2013 M&G Investments Chelmsford League Mens Singles Champions Alex Abbott won his three singles and he beat Steve Joslin in a repeat of last year’s Mens Singles Final 3-1 (11-3, 11-8, 6-11, 12-10).

ECC A fielded new signing Peter Radford against Elmtree Graphics A and Radford and Mark Mulley were both undefeated as they ran out 7-3 winners, their fourth win of the season. Bocking ran out 8-2 winners against Danbury B. Kevin Gowlett dominated the action and won his three singles whilst Neil Want impressed for the Danbury side. He beat Paul Davison 3-2 (9-11, 13-11, 13-11, 4-11, 11-6).

Steve Pennell, who has made an impressive start to the season with 13 wins out of 15 led Liberal to a 6-4 win over ECC C in Division Two. Pennell completed his hat-trick with a 3-2 (11-1, 6-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-6) victory over James Hicks, the best of the ECC players.

Hatfield Peverel B made it five wins on the trot in Division Three. Dave Fiddeman dominated proceedings and he won his three singles. OCs B have the strongest squad in this division and Robert Burton and Nat Ravlic both remained undefeated as they beat ECC E 8-2. However, the OCs side were made to work hard by Maldon C and scraped through 6-4. Brian Riedling scored two excellent wins over Robert Burton and Steve Northcott before falling short against Nat Ravlic whilst Ravlic missed out against Dawn Baldry 3-2 (11-4, 14-16, 12-10, 7-11, 12-10.

Elmtree Excalibur C made it four wins out of five by beating Danbury F 9-1. Steve Cheesman and Paul Sturton were both undefeated whilst Rod Macklennan won twice.

Division Four leaders OCs E made it four wins out of five by beating EPHQ 8-2. Daniel Berry won his three singles and Frank Hodge and Charlie Mariner both won twice. OCs D moved into second place and Adrian North, Stuart Wintle and Charles Yeung all won twice as they beat Hatfield Peverel C 7-3. Ray Eldridge remained unbeaten for Hatfield Peverel. ECC F ran out 6-4 winner against Danbury L. No single player dominated and the ECC duo of Mohammed Mohseni and Allison Millard and Danbury’s Kevin Willis all won twice.

Maldon D look to be the team to beat in Division Five and with 27 points out of a possible 30 they are going to be very hard to stop. Steve Scholz and Colin Napper were both undefeated as they beat OCs F 9-1. OCs G were 7-3 winners over ECC G. Tom Barker and Peter Windley both won their three singles.

Chelmsford H (Peter Davenport and Steven Davenport) came out on top 3-2 against Chelmsford G in the CLICK League despite the fact that Callum Day remained undefeated for Chelmsford G. Day beat Peter Davenport 3-2 (12-14, 11-8, 16-14, 8-11, 15-13) in a very tightly contested battle of the number ones.
