Peter Mynard hat-trick gives Elmtree Excalibur A the edge
Elmtree Excalibur A recorded their first win of the season in the First Division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League, and the improving Peter Mynard took top billing as he won all three singles in their impressive 7-3 victory over Danbury B.
Mynard completed an excellent evening’s work with a fine 3-1 (11-8, 11-6, 6-11, 11-9) win over Charles Sweeney. Maldon B made it four wins out of five by beating Bocking 7-3. James Denyer (three wins), John Monk (two wins) and Greg Green all impressed whilst Kevin Gowlett with two wins was the best of the Bocking players. OCs A were 8-2 winners over Rawreth & Hullbridge. The inform Peter Hayden again won his three singles.
Hatfield Peverel A were the week’s big winners in Division Two. John Parodi and John Webber both stayed undefeated as they beat Danbury E 9-1. John Parodi beat Tim Cramphorn 3-2 (13-11, 5-11, 11-13, 11-5, 12-10) in the closest game of the evening whilst the luckless Cramphorn also missed out against John Webber 3-2 (11-5, 7-11, 11-7, 12-14, 9-11).
Dave Richardson was on match-winning form as Danbury D beat Liberal 6-4. Richardson defeated Steve Pennell, the best of the Liberal players 3-2 (7-11, 11-9, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7) to complete his hat-trick in the last game of the night.
The match between Elmtree Excalibur B and Danbury C finished all square. Gus Heath who has made a good start to the season again won his three singles for Elmtree whilst Neil Want and Steve Buer both picked up two wins for the Danbury side. The match between Tony Hallett and Graham Brigss was a close one with Hallett shading it 3-2 (9-11, 11-7, 11-9, 5-11, 12-10).
Hatfield Peverel B, with four wins out of four, lead the way in Division Three. Dave Fiddeman and Gareth Davies both won twice to counter Herbie Smith’s hat-trick in their 6-4 victory against Danbury F. The last game of the night was the closest and Herbie Smith just prevailed 3-2 (12-10, 11-8, 7-11, 7-11, 12-10) against Dave Fiddeman.
Danbury H were also 6-4 winners. Dave Marsh won his three singles against ECC E whilst a very strong OCs B side ran out convincing 9-1 winners over OCs B. Robert Burton, Steve Northcott and Nat Ravlic won all nine singles. OCs C did better against Chelmsford C. David Porter led the way with three singles victories as they ran out 6-4 winners.
OCs D suffered their first defeat in Division Four, losing 7-3 to Writtle B. Brian Steward won his three singles and he received good support from Frank Neill and Colin Griffiths who both won twice. Hatfield Peverel C were well served by the ever-reliable Dave Carter as they beat ECC F 6-4 whilst Danbury K produced a top-class performance to defeat EPHQ 10-0.
A superb effort from the Danbury side of Norman Hayes, Roger Tiffin and Craig Foster although you have to feel a little sorry for the EPHQ side who lost six games in the fifth end on this occasion. EPHQ fared better against Elmtree Excalibur D but even though Francis Whitbread won his three singles they still lost 6-4. Dave Moles and Wiktor Delimat both won twice for the Elmtree Excalibur side.
Maldon D turned in a second strong performance in Division Five. Steve Scolz, Ryan Sacjh and Colin Napper were all undefeated as they beat Highwood 10-0. OCs G were also 10-0 winners. Josh Watts, Peter Windley and Tom Barker dominated the action against OCs F.
Chelmsford E had Sarah Austin leading the way as they beat ECC G 8-2. She beat Victor Chan 3-0 (15-13, 12-10, 14-12) in a very close first game, a result that seems to have given her side the edge.
