Michael Andrews hits rich vein of from for Danbury A

Michael Andrews has hit a rich vein of form in Division One of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League and he won all six of his singles to help Danbury A draw 5-5 with Maldon B and to beat ECC B 8-2. Andrews scored three excellent wins over the Maldon B players – James Denyer, Minda Sinkus and John Poysden and his hot spell continued into the match against ECC B where he defeated Rik James 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-9).

Rawreth & Hullbrdge A ran out narrow 6-4 winners against Maldon B after Glenn Johnson and Gary Young had both won twice. Ben Warner and Babul McCleod both won twice for Maldon B. The form of Baul McCleod stood out. He beat Gary Baker and Glenn Johnson.

Danbury C have moved clear in Division Two after scoring a rare 10-0 win over Chelmsford B. Tim Pulham, Graham Briggs and Glenn Laing were all undefeated. Tim Pulham set the tone for what turned out to be a very successful evening by beating Ryan Pitt 3-2 (11-3, 4-11, 9-11, 15-13, 11-8) in a hard-fought opening encounter.

Gary Ward remained undefeated to lead Hatfield Peverel A to a 6-4 win over Rawreth & Hullbridge B. Ward had to pull put all the stops to get the better of Paul Churn 3-2 (6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 4-11, 15-13). ECC C ran out 8-2 winners over Chelmsford B after Colin Blore had remained unbeaten whilst Dave Richardson led Danbury D to a 7-3 win over Chelmsford A. Steve Whiteley won twice for the Danbury side and this include a last-gasp 3-2 (11-9, 6-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8) victory against Waseem Qureshi.

The leaders Hatfield Peverel made it six wins out of six in Division Three by beating Danbury G 7-3. Gordon Fairchild, Guy McKenzie and Gareth Davies all won twice although they all stumbled against Gordon Gatherall. Danbury G also lost 8-2 to Elmtree Excalibur C. Rod Maclennan and Paul Sturton were both unbeaten for the Elmtree side on this occasion. However, Danbury G did taste success against Chelmsford C. Tim Pulham and Ken Sheard both won their three singles this time. The match between ECC E and ECC D finished tied at 5-5, Peter Layzell won his three singles for ECC D.

In Division Four, Hatfield Peverel C fought back from 5-2 down to earn a draw against Danbury J. Dave Carter started the fight-back by sealing his third win of the night – a 3-0 (11-4, 11-8, 13-11) victory over Dave Powell while Andy Simmonds pulled another game back by getting the better of Brian Ellis 3-1 (11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-3). In a fitting finale Adam Carter defeated Scott Perry 3-2 (11-5, 8-11, 12-10, 2-11, 13-11) to seal a draw for his team.

Elsewhere, Dave Powell won his three singles as Danbury J beat Danbury K 7-3 whilst Wiktor Delimat won his three singles as Elmtree Excalibur D beat Writtle B 7-3.
Chelmsford D ran out 7-3 winners against Danbury K. Adam Pitt dominated the action by winning his three games.

Nicola Pippen won her three singles to lead Elmtree Excalibur E to a 7-3 win over Danbury M in Division Five and she received good support from Keith Fitzjohn who won twice. Danbury’s Eamon Hall beat Keith Pallett 3-2 (11-7, 9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 12-10) in the closest game of the night. The match between Danbury M and Highwood was a closely fought affair. No single player remained undefeated. Scott Perry and Dan Anderson won twice for Danbury whilst Martin Goddard and Kevin Barber picked up two wins for Highwood.

Buttsbury A were 4-1 winners over Chelmsford H in the CLICK League. They lead the way with 12 points out of a possible 15. George Cobley won twice whilst Daniel Cunnew won once. In the closest game of the evening George Cobley just prevailed 3-2 (9-11, 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9) against Simeon Clark.
