Paul Davison leads Bocking to a 7-3 win over Rawreth
Bocking have been on good form of late and they recorded their fourth win of the season in the first division of the Chelmsford and District Table Tennis League with a 7-3 victory over Rawreth.
Paul Davison won his three singles and this included a 3-1 (11-6, 8-11, 11-2, 12-10) victory over Gary Young, Rawreth’s best player. Kevin Gowlett and Jon Hill both won twice to give Bocking the upper-hand.
ECC B were 6-4 winners over leaders Maldon B, who were made to pay for being a player short and they also drew 5-5 with Danbury B. Rik James was undefeated in his singles in both matches.
Leaders Elmtree Excalibur B look to be certainties for promotion from Division Two. Scott Dowsett led them to a 7-3 win over second-placed ECC C although he had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Reuben Okai 3-2 (12-10, 7-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8). ECC C also beat Danbury D 8-2.
Peter Lau made his mark with a hat-trick of wins. Rawreth B were even more convincing winners. Simon Jacob and Paul Churn were both undefeated as they overcame Danbury E 9-1. Dick Wyman was Danbury’s sole winner. He beat Mike Worship 3-2 (11-2, 6-11, 11-9, 11-13, 11-7).
ECC D impressed in Division Three. They beat Danbury G 7-3 – good going as Danbury G are in third place. Richard Storey and Peter Layzell were both undefeated. Richard Storey rounded off proceedings by fighting back from 2-0 down to beat Tim Pulham 3-2 (8-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-5).
Elmtree Excalibur C ran out 8-2 winners over ECC E. Steve Cheesman recorded a hat-trick of wins and team-mates Lin Attridge and Rod Maclennan both won twice. The match between OCs C and ECC E finished tied at 5-5. Allan Thompson won his three singles for the ECC side whereas Mick Hayes won twice for the OCs team. Hayes just prevailed 3-2 (11-6, 14-12, 9-11, 8-11, 12-10) against Jeff Lewington.
Daniel Berry has been a revelation for OCs E this season in Division Four with 30 wins out of 33. This week he led the table-toppers to a 7-3 win over Danbury K. Danbury’s Norman Hayes used all of his experience to get the better of Frank Hodge 3-2 (11-9, 8-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-9).
Hatfield Peverel C are in third place and they beat EPHQ 6-4. Ray Eldridge stayed undefeated. Francis Whitbread beat Dave Carter by a last -gasp 3-2 (11-8, 2-11, 13-11, 8-11, 15-13). The match between OCs D and Danbury J finished tied at 5-5. Stuart Wintle won his three singles for the Old Chelmsfordians side whilst Brian Ellis and Dave Goody both picked up two wins for the Danbury team. Brian Ellis beat Adrian North 3-1 (17-15, 10-12, 19-17, 11-9) in a very well contested last game of the evening.
Maldon D added two more wins to their tally in Division Five. They are handily placed with two games in hand on the leaders – OCs G. They beat ECC G 6-4 and Elmtree Excalibur E 7-3. In the match against ECC G no single player remained undefeated and ECC‘s Victor Chan and David Gatherall and Maldon‘s Steve Scholz and Peter Scholz all won twice. ECC G also drew 5-5 against Danbury M. Scott Perry remained undefeated for Danbury M.
Callum Day dominated proceedings in the CLICK League match between Black Notley and Chelmsford G. His two singles wins enabled Chelmsford G to win 7-3. Day was hard pushed to get the better of Will Brazier 3-2 (9-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6).
Elsewhere, Aswin Siam led OCs H to a 3-2 win over Felsted RBL. Siam beat Arthur Green 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-5) and Lawrence Butler 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-8).
