James Denyer – unbeaten for Maldon B

All four first division matches in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League ended in 6-4 scorelines – undoubted proof as to how evenly matched the division is this year. Maldon B top the table, and they had James Denyer (16 wins out of 21 so far this Season) unbeaten as they defeated Danbury A. ECC A are currently second, and 2014 Chelmsford Mens Singles Champion Steve Joslin (10 wins out of 11) led them to a 6-4 win over Maldon A. Joslin had to work very hard to beat Paul Sayer (20 wins out of 29) 3-2 (9-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-5, 11-9).

OCs A led by an undefeated Peter Hayden defeated ECC B 6-4 and they also beat Rawreth A 6-4. 2014 Chelmsford Mens Doubles Champion Gary Young beat Peter Hayden 3-2 (8-11, 11-7, 13-11, 8-11, 11-7) but in turn missed out against Brandon Crouchman 3-1 (11-13, 11-6, 8-11, 12-14).

Elmtree Excalibur B led Division Two but this week they were beaten 6-4 by second-placed Danbury C. Scott Dowsett warmed up for what turned out to be an Under 21 Singles Championship winning success in the Chelmsford Closed Tournament by winning his three singles. Neil Want, Graham Briggs and Glen Laing all won twice for Danbury C.

Six-four was also the scoreline when Danbury C faced Hatfield Peverel A although this time they lost. Gary Ward and John Webber both won twice for Hatfield Peverel.  Chelmsford A led by Waseem Qureshi, who went on to capture the division two singles at the Closed Tournament in turn beat Danbury C 7-3. Waseem beat Neil Want 3-2 (11-5, 8-11, 13-15, 11-5, 11-9).

OCs B made it 14 wins out of 14 in Division Three by beating ECC E 9-1. Robbie Burton, Stephen Northcott and Nat Ravlic raced through all nine singles. Maldon C beat Danbury H 6-4. Maldon’s Dawn Baldry won her three singles. Elmtree Excalibur C were 6-4 winners over Danbury F. Paul Sturton and Steve Cheesman won twice for Elmtree Excalibur whilst Herbie Smith and Peter Hance both won twice for Danbury F.

Close matches were also the order of the day in Division Four. Elmtree Excalibur E beat OCs F 6-4 although none of their players were able to get the better of David Newman. The match between Danbury J and Danbury L finished tied at 5-5. Dave Goody was undefeated for Danbury J. It was the same story in the match between Danbury L and Chelmsford D. Kevin Willis won his three singles for Danbury L although he had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Adam Pitt narrowly 3-2 (11-4, 6-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9).

Highwood feature in all three matches in Division Five this week They drew with Elmtree Excalibur F, they beat Chelmsford F 7-3 and they drew with a two-player Maldon D. Elmtree Excalibur’s Nicola Pippen scored a fine hat-trick in their clash. She had to pull out all the stops to beat Martin Goddard 3-2 (11-13, 11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 11-9).  Highwood’s Russell Downton defeated Keith Pallett 3-2 (11-6,11-7, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9) in another well-contested clash in this match.
