Bocking record first 10-0 victory of the season

Bocking have done what no other side has managed in the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League this season.

Their 10-0 win over Elmtree Excalibur A is the first whitewash of the 2013-4 season in the Chelmsford top division as Kevin Gowlett, Paul Davison and Jon Hill all recorded clean-sheets.

Jon Hill opened proceedings with a fine 3-2 (9-11, 11-13, 11-13, 11-6, 11-6) win over Gary Cattermole and thereafter the Bocking side never looked back.

Rawreth impressed by beating Danbury A 7-3. Their top-player Gary Young won his three singles whilst Chris Jacob secured an excellent five game win over Antony Greenwood. Danbury A fared better against Maldon A and they won 6-4 despite the fact that none of their players were able to beat Paul Sayer. Hamish Innes won once for Maldon, a gruelling marathon of a victory 3-2 (11-8, 7-11, 11-8, 6-11, 25-23) over Ian Whiteside.

Maldon B stay top but they were only able to draw with ECC A. Maldon’s Keiran Lally won his three singles whereas ECC’s Reuben Okai scored a very hard-fought 3-2 (11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8) victory over John Cleasby. Peter Lau, returning to the ECC side after a four-year break also did well to beat Cleasby in five ends.

Elmtree Excalibur B remain the team to beat in Division Two and with 66 points out of 100 they are setting an impressive pace. Their 5-5 draw against Chelmsford A wasn’t perhaps one of their best performances and it owed a lot to the improving Scott Dowsett’s trio of wins. Scott had to work hard to get the better of his Aunt – Julie Johnson 3-1 (7-11, 13-11, 11-8, 11-7).

ECC C had James Hicks (21 wins out of 26) to thank as they beat Hatfield Peverel A 6-4. Hicks had to pull out all the stops to get the better of John Webber 3-2 (13-11, 11-5, 14-16, 6-11, 19-17) – quite a battle.

Danbury C have moved into third place. Steve Buer (three wins), Graham Briggs (two wins) and Glenn Laing (two wins) were all on good form. Bottom side Chelmsford B continue to battle away and they made a good showing against Hatfield Peverel A. None more so than Adam Pitt. He beat Dave Carter 3-1 (11-9, 5-11, 11-4, 11-9) and John Parodi 3-2 (11-3, 12-10, 8-11, 15-17, 14-12).

Maldon C were big winners in Division Three. Brian Riedling (three wins), Dawn Baldry (three wins) and Shirley Carroll beat ECC D 9-1. Shirley Carroll played her part by beating Neil Thompson 3-2 (11-6, 10-12, 11-7, 5-11, 13-11).

In Division Four Danbury L beat Danbury K 7-3. Kevin Willis won his three singles although he had to fight back from 2-0 down to get the better of Mick Robinson 3-2 (9-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7). Hatfield Peverel C were 9-2 winners over Elmtree Excalibur D. The ultra-experienced Ray Eldridge won his three singles.

OCs G are top in Division Five going into the Christmas break. Tom Barker and Peter Windley both won their three singles as they beat Danbury M 9-1. Further down the table OCs F won their first match of the season. David Newman stayed undefeated in their 7-3 victory over ECC G. Danish Dewan won twice and he defeated Jamie Rainbow 3-2 (6-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-6).

In the CLICK League Buttsbury B (Daniel Cunnew and Joseph Mendoza) were 4-1 winners over Black Notley. Daniel Cunnew had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Ewan Phillipson narrowly winning 3-0 (13-11, 12-10, 11-8). Chelmsford G (Callum Day, Sarah Bell and Kristian Kregarik) were shock 3-2 winners over leaders Buttsbury A.

Sarah Bell excelled. She beat Grant Clark 3-0 (13-11, 12-10, 13-11) and Matthew Elliott 3-1 (11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-7).
