Keith Cullen double gives Hatfield Peverel the edge
A strong Hatfield Peverel D side of Dave Carter, Ray Eldridge and Keith Cullen are through to the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League Division Four Down KO Cup Final after beating OCs C 5-2.
Tom Barker gave OCs a 2-0 lead by beating Dave Carter 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 12-10) but Hatfield Peverel hit back. Keith Cullen played his part by beating Daniel Berry 3-1 (11-8, 4-11, 11-4, 11-5) as well as Tom Barker 3-2 (11-8, 11-13, 9-11, 11-7, 11-4).
Ray Eldridge sealed the Hatfield Peverel victory by getting the better of Daniel Berry 3-1 (11-5, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8). They will meet Elmtree/Excalibur in the final.
The Elmtree side ran out 5-0 winners against Danbury in their semi-final. Rod Maclennan set the ball rolling by beating Dave Goody 3-1 (6-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-4) whilst Paul Sturton contributed a 3-2 (3-11, 11-5, 12-10, 8-11, 11-8) victory over Dave Powell and Dave Moles played his part by beating Brian Ellis 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6).
Danbury G have clinched second place in Division Four. Dave Marsh, John Robinson and Richard Allen all won twice as they beat Danbury H 7-3. Dave Marsh set the ball rolling by beating Dave Goody 3-2 (11-5, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9, 12-10) in the opening game whilst John Robinson played his part by fighting back from 2-0 down to get the better of Dave Goody 3-2 (6-11, 5-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-7).
ECC F have avoided relegation by drawing 5-5 with OCs C, and their total of 79 points means that EPHQ (77 points) are relegated. Allison Millard won her three singles for the ECC side, and this included a 3-2 (12-10, 11-9, 4-11, 6-11, 11-5) win over David Porter.
Danbury J (138 points) are Division Five Champions. They beat Highwood 9-1 to overhaul Danbury K (135 points). Mick Robinson and Norman Hayes were both undefeated and Mick Robinson completed an excellent evening’s work, fighting back from 2-0 to get the better of Martin Goddard 3-2 (4-11, 9-11, 11-9, 13- 11, 11-8).
ECC H emerged as 4-1 winners against OC s/KEGS in the CLICK League. Jamie Rainbow won his two singles and the ECC side were also successful in the two tightly fought five-enders. Andrew Wood beat Joe Rowden 3-2 (11-4, 11-6, 8-11, 9-11, 12-10) and Jamie Rainbow defeated Aswin Siam 3-2 (11-9, 11-13, 16-14, 9-11, 11-8).
