Davison back to his best for Bocking

Bocking produced their best performance of the season in the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. Kevin Gowlett, Paul Davison and Jon Hill beat Writtle A 8-2 with Davison and Gowlett both bagging hat-tricks.

Davison, the 2012 Braintree Men’s Singles Champion was back to his best as he beat Paul Cuming 3-0 (13-11, 11-6, 11-4) and Gary Ward 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-8).

A new look Maldon B side of Keith Adams, Minda Sinkus and Simon Jacob beat Elmtree Excalibur A 7-3. Keith Adams and Minda Sinkus both stayed undefeated for Maldon and they both overcame tough encounters against Gary Young. Sinkus required the full five ends to win 3-2 (7-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 12-10) whilst Adams came through in four ends 3-1 (11-9, 11-7, 11-13, 13-11).

Writtle B impressed in Division Two by beating Danbury C 7-3. Trevor Crater and Matthew Brown both stayed undefeated with Carter wrapping up the evening’s proceedings with a hard-fought 3-2 (11-1, 12-14, 13-15, 11-8, 11-9) victory over Steve Whiteley.

ECC also beat Liberals 6-4 with Dean Andrews picking up two good wins for the Liberals side. He beat James Hicks 3-2 (8-11, 11-9, 6-11, 13-11, 11-9) and Colin Blore 3-2 (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 7-11, 12-10).

Rawreth (Mike Worship, Matt Rolfe and Paul Churn) beat EC D 7-3 in the third division. Matt Rolfe just beat Richard Storey 3-2 (6-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-5, 12-10) in the closest game of the night.

Danbury E maintained their excellent start to the season by beating OCs B 6-4, good going after they had trailed 3-0 from the opening encounters. Peter Hance stopped the rot by beating Frank Hodge in five ends and he added a second win with a nail-biting 3-2 (9-11, 11-9, 14-12, 8-11, 12-10) success against David Porter.

Danbury H ran out 6-4 winners against Hatfield Peverel D in Division Four although none of their players were able to get the better of Dave Carter. Dave Powell came closest against Carter before succumbing 3-2 (11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 5-11, 11-9).

Danbury G beat Elmtree Excalibur 6-4 after a marathon match in which eight games were decided in the fifth end. Elmtree’s Rod Maclennan fared best and his hat-trick of wins included the only three straight win of the night – his quick-fire victory over Richard Allen. Maclennan also had to fight back from 2-0 down against Terry Hyland before he triumphed 3-2 (7-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8).

ECC H (Andrew Wood and Jamie Rainbow) ran out 5-0 winners over OCs/KEGS in the CLICK League. The OCs team came very close to winning the doubles encounter with Prateek Puval and Harry Clark pushing the Wood/Rainbow combination all the way before succumbing 3-2 (11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 4-11, 13-11).

All players are reminded that the closing date for entering the 2012/13 M&G Investments Chelmsford Closed Championships is 05 December 2012. This year’s Championships take place at Anglia Ruskin University, Mildmay Sports Hall, Bishops Hall Lane, Rivermead Campus, over the weekend of Friday 18 to Sunday 20 January 2013.
