Danbury D dominant against Danbury C

Danbury D (Steve Buer, Chris Buer and Andrew Halling) are the early leaders in Division Two of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. They raced into a 5-0 lead against Danbury C before running out 7-3 winners. Andrew Halling and Chris Buer were both undefeated. Danbury C’s Steve Whiteley came up trumps against Steve Buer 3-2 (9-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-5, 13-11) in the closest game of the night.

Chelmsford B’s Robert Shrimpton won his three singles to lead his side to a 6-4 victory over Writtle B. Shrimpton edged home 3-2 (11-6, 10-12, 11-4, 5-11, 13-11) against Matthew Brown in the opening game, the closest of the evening. The match between Hatfield Peverel A and Chelmsford A finished all-square. No single player stayed undefeated. John Webber won twice for Hatfield Peverel missing out 3-0 (12-10, 11-5, 11-8) to Alistair Piper.

The first division battle between Danbury A and Writtle A finished all-square, Danbury’s cause was helped by winning three very hard fought five-enders. Ian Whiteside beat Bruce Kettle 3-2 (18-20, 5-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9) whilst the luckless Kettle also missed out against Eric Green by a tantalising 3-2 (11-8, 5-11, 11-7, 5-11, 12-10 margin.

Elmtree Excalibur C have made a flying start in Division Three. Kevin Smart’s three singles wins gave them the ascendancy as they beat Hatfield Peverel C 7-3. Danbury E (Herbie Smith, newcomer Simon Chambers and League Chairman Norman Smith) beat Danbury F 6-4. Danbury F’s Rob Kneale picked up three good wins for the losing side.

Danbury G were the week’s big winners in Division Four. John Robinson was undefeated as they beat Writtle C 8-2. Robinson completed his hat-trick with a five-game win over Colin Griffiths 3-2 (8-11, 0-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-6).

OCs C emerged as 6-4 winners of a hard-fought match against Chelmsford D. Adam Pitt made his mark for the Chelmsford team with wins over 2012 M&G Investments Chelmsford Ladies Singles Runner-Up Sue Hickman and Mick Hayes. Hatfield Peverel D led by the experienced Dave Carter beat Elmtree Excalibur E 6-4. Adam Carter won twice for the Hatfield Peverel side.

A ‘clear picture’ has not yet emerged in Division Five with no sides having made dominant starts. Danbury J’s 9-1 win over OCs F represented their first win of the season during which Mick Robinson and Janet Pannell were both undefeated. Peter Windley was on target for the Old Chelmsfordians team with a 3-2 (11-8, 3-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8) victory over John Knights.

Danbury K edged out the early leaders – OCs E 6-4. Kevin Willis and Philip Crudgington both picked up two wins for the Danbury team whilst Daniel Berry and Charlie Mariner both won twice for the OCs team. OCs E fared better against Chelmsford G and Daniel Berry’s hat-trick ensured that they ran out 7-3 winners.

The match between OCs G and Elmtree Excalibur F finished all-square. Elmtree looked to have had the edge but with newcomer Conrad Kaminski not having been registered in time his two wins were declared null and void.
