Crouchman on superb form for OCs

Brandon Crouchman was on top form for OCs A who drew 5-5 against Bocking in the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League.

The all-action still-improving Essex County Junior first team star scored three excellent wins. He beat Kevin Gowlett, Nikki Davison and Paul Davison whilst team-mate Dave Cole picked up two victories.

Cole, the four times Chelmsford Mens Singles Champion missed out in five ends against 2012 Clacton Mens Singles Champion Kevin Gowlett 3-2 (11-6, 4-11, 6-11, 17-15, 7-11). Writtle A made it two wins on the trot by beating a two-player Maldon A 6-4. The free-flowing Paul Sayer was on top form and he beat all three Writtle players – Kevin Worthington, Peter Radford and Gary Ward.

Writtle B were convincing winners in Division Two. They beat Danbury B 9-1. Trevor Carter and Matthew Brown were both undefeated. The match between ECC C and Chelmsford B finished all square. ECC‘s James Hicks dominated the evening with a hat-trick of wins over Dauncan Elloy, Rob Shrimpton and James Austin.

Elmtree Excalibur D ran out 7-3 winners against ECC D in Division Three. Scott Dowsett’s hat-trick gave Elmtree Excalibur the edge and Tony Hallett and Steve Cheesman both won twice. Neil Want defeated Tony Hallett 3-2 (10-12, 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 12-10) in the closest game of the evening.

OCs C recorded their second win in Division Four, beating EPHQ 7-3 – good going after they trailed 2-0 from the opening encounters.  David Porter’s five game win over Wayne Campbell-Harvey marked a change in fortunes and Porter went on to complete his hat-trick with further victories over Francis Whitbread and Calvin Wright.

Hatfield Peverel D (the Carter family of Adam/Dave/Ryan) were 8-2 winners over Chelmsford  D whilst the  match between Danbury H and Writtle C finished all square. Brian Steward defeated Dave Powell 3-2 (11-8, 7-11, 3-11, 11-6, 12-10) in the closest game of the night.

Braintree first division player Brian Riedling is going to be very hard to beat at this level and he won his three singles for Maldon C as they beat OCs D 8-2. Dawn Baldry and Shirley Carroll both won twice.

Chelmsford G (Jacqui Smith, Jennie Crapnal and Thomas Nguyen) ran out 10-0 winners against OCs G whilst Chelmsford E drew 5-5 with Highwood. Ryan Gooday sealed the draw for his side by picking up his second win of the evening in the last game. He beat League stalwart Russell Downton 3-1 (5-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-1).

Highwood fared better against Elmtree Excalibur F. Russell Downton, Kevin Barber and Martin Goddard ran out 8-2 winners. Wiktor Delimat won twice for the Old Chelmsfordians’ team.

Chelmsford K (Harry Isaacs and George Wackett) made a winning start in the CLICK League. They beat Black Notley 3-2 although neither of their players were able to get the better of William Brazier in the singles. In a well contested doubles encounter Isaccs and Wackett defeated Brazier and Ewan Philippson 3-2 (11-13, 11-4, 12-14, 11-8, 11-8) to secure the Chelmsford side’s victory.
