John Poysden, a player better known in the Southend League, hit top form for Elmtree Excalibur A in the first division this week. His fine hat-trick of wins over Frank Hodge, Brandon Crouchman and Terry Dowsett enabled Elmtree to beat OCs A 6-4. Peter Mynard excelled as well, beating Terry Dowsett 11-9, 11-9, 11-3.
Rawreth A were also in action against OCs A and they also won 6-4. No single player won all three singles and OCs’ Crouchman and Dowsett and Rawreth’s Glenn Johnson and Ben Warner all won twice. Stand-out results included Dowsett’s fine 3-2 (3-11, 5-11, 11-4, 12-10, 13-11) victory over Gary Young and Crouchman’s equally impressive 3-1 (7-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-8) victory over Ben Warner.
Galleywood A were 6-4 losers to Bocking A. Kevin Gowlett won his three singles for Bocking, including a 3-1 (11-8, 15-13, 7-11, 11-7) win over John Holland. Alistair Hill made his mark with a fine 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-8) victory against Lucy Wang.
Elmtree Excalibur B impressed in Division Two. They beat Danbury D 7-3 after Tony Hallett, Peter Layzell and Lee McHugh had all won twice. They all drew blanks against Steve Whiteley who is beginning to rediscover his best form after a lengthy break from the Sport.
The inter-club match between Danbury B and Danbury C finished all square. Andrew Halling and Sidney Dorn were two times winners for the B side and Graham Briggs and Neil Want repeated the feat for the C team. Steve Buer earned Danbury B a share of the points by defeating Glen Laing 3-1 (7-11, 11-7, 11-5, 12-10) in the last game of the evening.
Adam Carter turned in a match-winning performance for Hatfield Peverel C in Division Three as they beat OCs D 6-4. He scored a fine hat-trick of wins over Peter Windley, David Porter and Mick Hayes.
Maldon C were 6-4 winners over Chelmsford B. Brian Riedling was unbeaten for Maldon whilst Keith Martin won twice for the Chelmsford team. Keith Martin beat Ev Lucas 3-2 (11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 8-11, 14-12) in the closest game of the night.
OCs F made it two wins out of two in Division Four. Tom Barker and Peter Windley were both undefeated as they beat Galleywood C 8-2. Maldon D have also made a very good start and they had Colin Napper and Steve Scolz on top form as they beat EPHQ 8-2.
Galleywood C continued the trend of convincing wins as they beat Danbury K 8-2. David Gatherall and Mohammed Mohseni both scored hat-tricks with Mohseni having to fight back from 2-0 down to get the better of Mick Robinson in five (6-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-1, 11-9).
Elmtree Excalibur C were also 8-2 winners against Writtle. Dave Moles and Steve Siggs were both undefeated after a match in wihch six games went the distance, leaving Writtle feeling hard done by. Andy Fox scored a “consolation win” by beating Neil Thompson 3-2 (11-5, 11-4, 4-11, 7-11, 13-11) in the closest game of the evening.Chelmsford D relied on team-work to get the better of OCs E. Bob Francis, newcomer Jarolsaw Pietraszuk and Sarah Austin all won twice.
Danbury L (Alan Shrimpton, Scott Perry and George Ashley) were 9-1 winners in Division Five over Galleywood D. Arthur Clark was the sole Galleywood winner and he beat Alan Shrimpton 3-1.
Buttsbury A, led by Nathan Fry (six wins out of six to date) look to be the team to be beat in the CLICK League. They beat Chelmsford G 5-0 and Chelmsford H 3-2. Chelmsford’s Kristian Kretcirik made his mark by beating Matthew Elliott 3-1 (11-7, 11-13, 11-5, 11-8) and fully extended Fry before succumbing 3-2 (11-9, 4-11, 4-11, 14-12, 3-11).
