Buttsbury A look to be the outstanding team in this year’s CLICK (Introductory) division in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. They top the table with eight straight wins out of eight and a massive points tally of 36 out of 40.

Nathan Fry has won 15 singles out of 16 and Matthew Elliott has picked up 14 wins out of 16. This week they overcame Black Notley B (Peter Hull and Lawrence Grantham) 5-0.

Chelmsford G are currently in second place although the teams around them have games in hand. Chelmsford G were beaten 5-0 by OCs H, for whom Harry Rogers and Lawrence Bartlett were both undefeated. Harrison Matthews pushed Rogers all the way before succumbing 3-2 (11-9, 5- 11, 7-11, 11-7, 7-11).

Black Notley A ran out 4-1 winners against Black Notley B. Patrick Bugg stayed undefeated and Jamie Brooks only missed out against Ewan Phillipson.

Buttsbury C (James Hughes and Tom Picton) did well to beat Chelmsford G 3-2 – good going as neither of their players were able to get the better of Steven Davenport. In two gripping opening encounters Davenport beat Tom Picton 3-2 (11-8, 9-11, 13-15, 11-5, 11-9) and James Hughes defeated Peter Davenport in the decider (7-11, 11-6, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9).

Maldon C were impressive 7-3 winners over Danbury E in Division Three. Brian Riedling and Tom Elder both scored hat-tricks, with Elder pipping Ivan Chaplin 3-2 (6-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9) in the closest game of the evening.

Danbury K produced their best display of the season and they did well to hold fourth-placed Elmtree Excalibur D to a draw in Division Four. Roger Tiffin won his three singles for the Danbury side, whilst Neil Thompson and Dave Moles both won twice for Elmtree Excalibur D. Thompson had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Norman Hayes 3-2 (8-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 13-11).

Chelmsford D beat Danbury J 6-4. Bob Francis won his three singles for the Chelmsford side, while Trevor Palmer impressed for the Danbury team, racing to a quickfire 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-7) win over Jarolsaw Pietraszuk.

Maldon E were the week’s big winners in Division Five. Brian Speller, Steve Lucas and Mervyn Perriman ran out 10-0 winners against Galleywood D.

Chelmsford F were 7-3 winners against Elmtree Excalibur E. Richard Baxter and Richard Upson both won their three singles.

All players are reminded that the 2014-5 Chelmsford & DTTL Individual Championships take place over the weekend of January 30 and February 1, 2015 at Hylands School, Chelmsford Road, Chelmsford, CM1 3ET. Late entries will not be allowed this year so all players are reminded to submit their entries to Tournament Organiser Arthur Clark as soon as possible.
