First division leaders Bocking A were well beaten 8-2 by a rampant Maldon A in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. They could only field two players and they were unfortunate to run into a Maldon side re-inforced by three times Chelmsford Mens Singles Champion Neil Charles. Minda Sinkus also excelled. He scored fine wins over both David Cole and Kevin Gowlett. Sinkus also led the way with a hat-trick as Maldon drew with Writtle

A. Maldon’s Jon Hill added victories against Kevin Worthington and Gary Ward. Further down the table Elmtree Excalibur Graphics A beat third-placed ECC A 6-4. A determined Gary Young scored three hard-fought wins beating all three ECC players – Steve Kerns, Dave Evans and Lucy Wang in the fifth end whilst Gary Baker beat both Evans and Kerns.

There was a shock in division two when second-placed Hylands School A were well beaten 7-3 by an inform Hatfield Peverel B. John Webber didn’t put a foot wrong downing the challenges of Brandon Crouchman, Scott Dowsett and Terry Dowsett – three superb wins. Alistair Piper was the dominant player as Chelmsford B drew with ECC B. He won his three singles whilst Julie Vansertima won twice. She beat the hard-hitting Trevor Collin by a last gasp 7-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 14-12 margin. It is relegation for Chelmsford C and they had nothing to show for their efforts against either Writtle B and Liberal. Writtle’s Trevor Carter, Matthew Brown and Hector Rogers carried all before them as Writtle ran out 10-0 winners whilst Liberal’s Barry Pritchard, Steve Pennell and Steve Elmes were equally dominant.

Bottom side OCs B did well to draw with ECC C in division three, good going as they were a player short. County Veteran player Sue Hickman won her three singles and this included a very hard-fought 10-12, 8-11, 11-4, 11-6, 15-13 win over Richard Storey. Elmtree Excalibur C stay in second place and they had Phil Smith on top form as they beat Danbury C 7-3. Ivan Chaplin was Danbury’s best player winning twice. He had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Mark Smith 11-7, 10-12, 7-11, 12-10, 12-10.

Rawreth are making a late charge for honours in division four and they turned in a high quality performance as they hammered ECC E 10-0. Newcomer Dale Gutteridge, Mike Worship and Paul Churn were all undefeated. Rawreth now trail Elmtree Excalibur D by seven points but intriguingly they have a match in hand. Danbury E’s Gordon Gatherall and Ken Sheard both won their three singles as they beat Danbury H 7-3 whilst Lee McHugh followed suit as a totally different Danbury E side beat Elmtree Excalibur D 7-3. Down Divisional Champion Richard Hiskey missed out against both Lee McHugh and Graham Briggs whilst Elmtree’s Nicola Pippen made her mark. She beat Briggs in five ends : 11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 6-11, 11-3.

In division five ECC F scored an impressive 8-2 win over Danbury J. Peter Sun won his three singles whilst Allison Barker and David Gatherall both picked up doubles. Peter Sun completed his hat-trick by getting the better of Kevin Willis 11-7, 9-11, 14-12, 11-9 in a hard-fought last game. Hatfield Peverel D’s Gareth Davies led the way as they beat Danbury K 7-3 whilst there is no stopping runaway leaders Elmtree Excalibur E. They scored their fifteenth win of the Season as they beat EPHQ 7-3. Steve Cheesman and Tony Hallett were both unbeaten although Hallett had quite a scare against Ian Hockley. Peverel E came about via a solid team-effort. Bob Francis, Paul Nichol and Adam Pitt all played their part although none of them were able to trouble Dave Carter.

Chelmsford J had Ryan Gooday to thank as they beat ECC G 4-1 in the CLICK League.Gooday beat both ECC’s Nathan Blore and Ben Clifford.
