Ruby Chan added doubles gold and singles and doubles silvers to the team gold she had already won at the Ghana Junior & Cadet Open.
The Harrogate player teamed up with India’s Ananya Chande, as she had in the Cadet Girls’ Team event, to take gold in the Cadet Girls’ Doubles, beating Judith Acheampong & Diana Ekua Opoku of the host nation 3-0 in the final.
The pair also reached the final of the Junior Girls’ Doubles, where they were defeated 3-2 by Diya Parag Chitale of India & Nandeshwaree Jalimof Mauritius, the top seeds.
In the Cadet Girls’ Singles, team-mates became rivals in the final as Chan faced Chande. The English girl took the first game, but the Indian came back to win 3-1.
The only event in which Chan did not win a medal was the Junior Girls’ Singles. She reached the quarter-finals, where she lost to India’s Diya Parag Chitale, the top seed and eventual champion.
The only other English player competing in Accra was James Smith. He reached the knockout stage of the Junior Boys’ Singles but was defeated in the last 16 by Nigeria’s Azeez Solanke, who went on to win the gold medal.
In the doubles, Smith & Alfredo Sanchez of Costa Rica were defeated in the quarter-finals by eventual silver medallists Emmanuel Augustine & Taiwo Mati of Nigeria.
