Ramsden A’s march towards the Central Essex Summer League first division title continued as they beat Danbury A 5-0. Charles Sweeney and Keith Adams were both undefeated, with Adams running out a five-game winner over Chris Buer (8-11, 11-5, 4-11, 11-6, 11-5) in the best game of the night.

Galleywood A were on top form as they defeated Ramsden B 5-0. John Holland and Gary Brignall were both unbeaten with Gary Brignall racing to a superb 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 win over Gary Ward.

Galleywood also beat Rayne 3-2. Rayne won the first two singles with Ian Whiteside securing a fine 3-0 (11-8, 12-10, 11-9) win over John Holland but Galleywood hit back strongly. Thomas and Holland then completed a memorable evening’s work by securing their side’s victory in the doubles 3-1 (8-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-9).

Elsewhere, Danbury A made no mistake against Cold Norton A and won 5-0. Steve Buer and Chris Buer were both undefeated. Chris Buer beat Tim Cramphorn 3-2 (5-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-7) in the closest game of the evening.

OCs A and the divisional leaders Chelmsford A produced a well contested match in Division Two. Frank Hodge excelled. He beat Paul Nicol in five ends (13-11, 2-11, 11-13, 11-5, 11-8) and then Ryan Gooday by an even closer margin (9-11, 15-13, 11-5, 2-11, 11-9). Chelmsford had the last say though; Nicol and Gooday defeated Mick Hayes and Frank Hodge 3-1 (11-4, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6) to secure a 3-2 triumph.

Paul Sturton was unbeaten as Buttsbury A beat Elmtree Excalibur 4-1. Dave Moles defeated Louis Brown 3-1 (11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9) for Elmtree’s sole success.

Buttsbury A also got the better of OCs B 3-2. OCs won the first two games but Buttsbury hit back in fine style. Caroline Cole scored a fine 3-2 victory over Daniel Berry and Louis Brown a very impressive 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-8) win over Peter Windley to level the scores. The advantage was now with Buttsbury and Brown and Cole secured the 3-2 victory by beating Windley and Berry 3-1 (11-6, 8-11, 13-11, 11-5) in the doubles.

OCs did better against Ramsden C and won 3-2. David Porter was their match-winner. He beat both Gareth Davies and Dave Fiddeman. Ramsden C in turn did better against OCs A and they ran out 4-1 winners. Neil Freeman beat both Tom Barker and Peter Windley.

In Division Three, Felsted RBL were 4-1 winners over Buttsbury B. Ashley Butler won both of his singles. Felsted scored an identical 4-1 win over Chelmsford B.  Butler again won both of his singles, which were both hard-fought affairs. OCs C were 5-0 winners over OCs D in Division Four, a result that fails to reflect the competitiveness of the match. Steve Pratt required the full five ends to get the better of Aswin Siam (11-6, 11-2, 8-11, 4-11, 11-9) whilst Farooq Ahmed eventually emerged as a five-end winner over Siam (11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 11-2, 11-5).

In another 5-0 match that wasn’t the drubbing that the scoreline suggests Buttsbury D beat Buttsbury C 5-0. Matthew Elliott and Nathan Fry were both unbeaten. Elliott fought back from 2-0 down to beat George Gaze 3-2 (5-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7) in the closest game of the evening.
