Table tennis will be one of only five sports to feature on every day of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, it was confirmed today.
Organisers have today revealed the schedule for the Games, which will begin with the opening ceremony on Thursday July 28, 2022.
Table tennis action is scheduled to begin the following day and run through to the final day of the Games on Monday August 8, with para table tennis once again featuring as part of the event, as it did at Gold Coast 2018.
Of the 19 sports at the Games, only table tennis, badminton, squash, aquatics and hockey will feature on every day.
The English table tennis team will be looking to improve on a record haul from Gold Coast, which included Men’s Doubles gold for Liam Pitchford & Paul Drinkhall and para gold for Ross Wilson, plus a first ever Women’s Team medal.
The Games will be the largest sports event to be held in UK since the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and include eight para sports integrated into the programme, creating the biggest para sports offering in Commonwealth Games history.
The unveiling of the new schedule confirms that there will now be two full weekends of competition, a move which is hoped will allow more than one million spectators to attend the biggest sporting event ever to be held in the West Midlands.
The Commonwealth Games Federation’s CEO, David Grevemberg, said: “My message to Commonwealth Sport fans around the globe is simple: Get Excited!
