2013/14 Champion Chris Doran with Trent team-mate Alice Loveridge

England no. 7 Chris Doran sent out a strong signal ahead of the 2013/14 Senior National Championships as he beat fellow international Daniel Reed to secure the coveted Men’s Singles title from the British Universities and Colleges Sport Individual Table Tennis Championships.

The Nottingham Trent student was triumphant in a classic four-game encounter, which will boost his hopes ahead of the big event this weekend (Feb 28 – Mar 2, 2014) as he looks for a first singles final.

It was another strong weekend all round for the Trent team who have dominated recent University Championships and again secured three of the five main titles on offer at Nottingham University.

Along with the Men’s Singles win from Doran, Trent also won the Women’s Doubles through Alice Loveridge and Emma Vickers and the Men’s Doubles from Doran and partner Sean Cullen.

However, they were denied the clean sweep as Durham University’s Clara Hai Qing took the Women’s Singles while Yolanda King and Paul McCreery secured the Mixed Doubles title as the only triumph for the host Nottingham Uni.

It was a record entry to the championships with 57 groups of four in the Men’s Singles, 20 groups of four in the Women’s Singles and a combined 148 pairings contesting the three doubles events.
