In a tightly contested British League season – this year no team has managed to see through all fourteen games with maximum victories.
The British Premier Division play-off places were decided with Halton and Derwent among the teams in contention after they finished behind illegible Division One North Champions; Drumchapel Glasgow II.
Division One South was won by BATTS while Division One South West and North was won by Ormesby ahead of Kingfisher. Ormesby powering ahead with their new signing; Yongbo Zhang (20 wins out of 20) who comes from the Liao Ning provence in China – the birthplace of stars like Ma Long, Ma Lin, Wang Liqin, Guo Yue and Liu Shiwen.
In the other leagues there was a dramatic weekend for Ellenborough who began bottom of the table in Division Two South and East. However, perhaps spurred on by their Junior Boys’ Team claiming victory in the JBL, they went on to win all four final weekend matches to finish a steady mid-table fifth – new signing Andrew Woodhead was the catalyst with eight wins out of eight.
Finally, in Division Four South East and Midlands, Bristol TT Academy – who had not dropped a point all season – were finally held to a draw by Bristol Civil Service despite leading 4-1. It came down to an excellent win for Scott Johnston over Kim Min Young 3-1 (11-5, 10-12, 11-8, 11-6) to secure the point.
