Rayne’s F and G teams triumphed in the lowest division in last season’s Braintree Table Tennis League – and early results in the new season suggest the same could happen again, even though the same players are not involved.

Both started their season with comfortable 8-1 wins. Alex Morgan and Peter Rickwood were unbeaten in the F team’s win over Black Notley G, for whom Paul Downes picked up the one point.

For the G team, it was Brian Dixon and Dave Whiting who won their three sets against Netts’ latest batch of juniors. Jack Dearsley registered Netts E’s win, a commendable one over the experienced Tim Townsend, who does not give much away.

In an earlier match Daniel Farquharson won all three in Netts’ 6-3 defeat by Notley F.

In division three, Adam Clift’s bright start to the season continues. He won his three singles in Notley D’s 6-3 win over their own C team.

Notley E, who suffered at Clift’s hands last week, scored their first win of the season, 7-2 over Netts D. Matt Brooks and Dave Parker were undefeated.

In division two, Notley A recovered from their first-week defeat by their own A team to beat Netts C 5-4. Patrice Elonge won his three singles for Notley.

Champions Liberal A were surprisingly stretched by Netts B in division one. Simon Webber won his three singles in their 6-3 victory but there were defeats for Scott Dowsett at the hands of Jon Hill and James Mullane while Terry Dowsett was found wanting by Nikki Davison.
