Benenden’s Arthur Bracken, a pupil of Dulwich Preparatory School won the under-11 singles at the IAPS National Prep Schools Championships hosted by Edge Grove School, Aldenham Village, Hertfordshire.
In a big entry event – 56 children from 21 schools – Bracken, 10, fought through his group and several rounds to reach the quarter-finals, where he had possibly his best win, in straight games over William Bettley of Holmwood House School, Colchester.
He won his semi-final comfortably but was taken to three games by Toby Crawcaur of University College School, Hampstead, in the final before emerging triumphant.
Earlier this season, Bracken, a member of the Weald Club, based at the High Weald Academy in Cranbrook, retained his Kent Schools under-11 singles title.
