Andrew Baggaley notched up one of the biggest wins of his career at the Polish Open in Warsaw. The 28 year old took on the former European champion Jean Michel Saive, who despite his years, is still No 40 in the world and which says a lot of this popular Belgium player.
But it couldn’t have started worse for the Milton Keynes player. He lost the opening game 11-9 but then with nothing to lose unleashed a barrage of winning shots to take the next two games, losing the fourth game 17-15 but then winning the next two and the match.
It was sensational stuff and will not have gone unnoticed by some of the watching high fliers. Unfortunately, he couldn’t maintain his form losing in the next round to world No 46 Greece’s Panagiotis Gionis in straight games. Nevertheless, a good day at the office for our national champion.
