More than 70 players contested Basildon Table Tennis tournament held at James Hornsby High School, Laindon Essex.

On form John Monk won the men’s singles while Duncan Taylor and Kevin Read won the men’s doubles.

Top seed Debbie Auvache was the victor in the ladies events as she beat Lin Attridge in both the ladies and veteran ladies singles events.

And Auvache and Attridge combined to win the ladies ladies doubles from runners up Gill Smith and Jo Hills. Attridge and Duncan Taylor also combined to beat Auvache and Colin Chatfield in the mixed doubles final.

The veteran men’s singles winner was George Reeves and the veteran mens doubles was won by Keith Adams and Keith Phillips.

The competition’s under 21 winner was the strong Charlie Bates who beat Sid Dorn. Under 16 Winner Dorn had defeated newcomer Luke Berry in this final. Stevie Wyatt and Dorn won the under 16 doubles.

Many other events were held over the weekend including handicap and restricted divisions two and three and over 60′ and 70’s singles matches.

The Basildon Table-Tennis league wants to attract youngsters and qualified coaches to attend training sessions at the Lee Chapel Community Centre every Monday from 4.30 to 7.30pm and at the Basildon Sporting Village on Wednesdays from 5pm to 6pm.
