Charlotte Bardsley reached the doubles quarter-finals at the Spanish Junior & Cadet Open, losing only to the top seeds and eventual champions.

The 13-year-old Staffordshire player teamed up with Tereza Pytlikova of the Czech Republic in the Cadet event.

And they enjoyed victories over Spanish and Lithuanian pairs to reach the last eight, where they faced top seeds Anastasia Kolish and Elina Rub.

But the Russian pair were too strong as they won in three straight on their way to taking the gold medal.

In the Cadet Singles, Bardsley won one of two group matches to reach the main draw, where she was beaten in the last 32 by Italy’s Arianna Barani.

In the team event, Bardsley again teamed up with Pytlikova, but they were knocked out in the group stage after defeats by Italy B (3-2) and Russia (3-0).
