Haddenham lead the way

Whilst the two Tring teams in The Vale’s Premier Division are struggling at the bottom, rivals from Haddenham are faring much better. The Haddenham A team comfortably beat two-handed Tring A, 10 – 0 to stretch their lead over Bierton A to 12 points.

Their B Team restricted Bierton to a 7 – 3 victory with Chris Hawkes winning twice and Jon Abungan once. Alan Cherry was unbeaten for Bierton. Elsewhere Tim Cheek won all three games in Sports B’s 7 – 3 win against Bellingdon, with Stuart Brown taking a double for the visitors.

Four points cover the top three in Division One with Ridgeway B a further 8 points behind with a game in hand. Leaders Sports C were held to a draw by Ridgeway for whom Jeff Amor starred. Sports duo, David Badham and Malcolm Burr clawed their way to a draw 14 – 12 in the fifth set of the doubles. Second placed Sports D pulled a point back winning 6 – 4 at Tring D. Quainton B trounced Tring C 9 – 1 with Jim Styles and Paul Reynolds victorious which puts them in third place 4.

Bierton B would have capitulated against Haddenham D had it not been for the redoubtable Bob Sergeant, playing a rare match. He overcame Simon Witney and John Cripps and took a leg off the unbeaten Mark Penn. Bierton lost 7 – 3.

Sports E have crept up the table recently gaining a draw at Haddenham C. Nick Cresswell won twice with Clive Westbury and reserve, Barry Green, winning once. Lee Mallick was unbeaten for Haddenham, but suffered a rare doubles defeat with Cynthia against Nick and Clive.

In Division Two’s top versus bottom clash leaders Risborough A had a comfortable 7 – 3 win against Bucks CC D. Gerry Saunders provided the main opposition with a twosome. Matt Axford remains at the top of the averages with a 100% record. The other 2 bottom teams met at Bucks CC E who without leading player Vic Davies went down 4 – 6 to visitors Brill A for whom John Fitsell and Charles Wallis were in sparkling form.

Sports F had a good victory over Bucks CC C thanks to maximums from Olu Sokoya and John Willcocks whilst Bucks CC B’s Ken Hill scored a maximum but finished on the losing side against Rivets A.

The ‘crunch’ match in Div 3 saw Risborough B visiting a strengthened Elmhurst team. Risborough’s Dave Stevens preserved his unbeaten record but Gerrans and Strong both won 2 games leading to a draw result.

Powerful Tring E swept Risborough C ruthlessly aside and now sit one point behind leaders Risborough B but with a game in hand. Sports G sit a comfortable third following a 7 – 3 victory over their struggling H team mates.

The Ginger brothers spurred Quainton C to a 6 – 4 win at Brill B.Bucks CC F won convincingly against the 2 ladies of Haddenham E and have climbed out of the bottom three.
