Vale Table Tennis Champions, Haddenham A, gave a good account of themselves at The Milton Keynes Table Tennis Centre on Saturday, 22 January in the English Leagues Competition, The Wilmott Cup. Darren Palmer, Andy Misseldine and Mark Scott competed against teams from Banbury, Guildford and Leamington Spa on the day, with the team that came top of the group proceeding to the finals day in July.

Aylesbury’s champs defeated the Banbury team by 4 legs to 1 and then Guildford with an overwhelming 5 – 0 score line. Leamington included two top players, Mark Jackson and Lawrence Sweeney, in their line up and had beaten both Banbury and Guildford 5 – 0. In what was the final for the group Mark Scott and Andy Misseldine inflicted defeats on the unbeaten Lawrence Sweeney. They both lost to Mark Jackson although Mark Scott lost in a thrilling five set encounter. The Aylesbury lads needed to win the doubles to go through to the finals and so nearly managed it, losing on deuce in the fifth set.

Many thanks to the Organiser, Brian Whitehead, and to The Milton Keynes Centre for staging this excellent event, and also to the supporters who turned up to watch.
