AYLESBURY AND DISTRICT TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

HADDENHAM LOOK GOOD

Leading by 14 points from Bierton A and unbeaten at the halfway stage, the Haddenham A trio of Mark Scott, Andy Misseldine and Darren Palmer are on target to retain their Premier Division Title. They strengthened their position with a 7-3 win against Bierton in the last league week before Christmas, with all three players winning twice.

John Bayliss shone for Bierton beating Mark and Darren and Neil Massa inflicted the first defeat for Andy in Aylesbury this season. Neil had three tight wins, only dropping one game, albeit 11-2. Andy recovered to beat Mick Wilkins in four games and then John 11-4 in the fifth game of the last singles match.

Third placed Sports A won 10-0 against their D Team, with David Badham testing Dave Wackrill, losing 11-7 in the fifth game. Haddenham B in fourth place ground out an 8-2 win at Quainton A with Chris Hawkes taking a five-game thriller against Dave Ralls, 11-9 in the last leg. Tony Gorman was unbeaten and Jon Abungan won twice. Dave just managed to beat Jon 12-10 in the fifth game.

At the bottom of the table Sports C had a mix-up on the home night at Bellingdon and only Rob Culverhouse turned up for them. He won against Aaron Taylor to allow his team to move just a bit further ahead of bottom placed Sports D. The Sports B team fielded Milton Keynes based Thai Lieu for the first time against Ridgeway A who only had two players. Thai managed a five-game victory against Nick Tyler but found Kevin Doyle too strong on the night. Sports could not add to the single win and with the three points received lost by six games to four.

With only Les Ferguy and Graham Smith available, Tring A still managed a 6-4 win against rival Division One title contenders, Haddenham C. Lee Mallick is returning to his best form, underlined by an 11-7 win in the fifth leg against Les. Tring are strong favourites to regain promotion to the Premier Division, but the chase behind them is ultra competitive. Ten points cover second to seventh position with Quainton B and Haddenham C leading the way.

Quainton C are in this group and recorded a nine games to one win at the expense of bottom placed Sports E. Matt and Tom are improving all the time in support of Dad, Phil Bradbury, and they are comfortably placed in sixth place on 51 points. Longwick A are one point behind Quainton after a resounding seven games to three defeat of Bierton B. Tim Sallis is proving as strong as Matt Axford as the season progresses, despite Graham Butcher taking him to five legs, losing 11-7 in the last game.

The Bucks CC A players have strengthened their position following a draw with Ridgeway B, Dave Shapter taking a fine maximum. This puts them one point ahead of Bierton who are currently second from bottom.

In Division Two Rivets B continue to fly high but Brill A are not letting them out of sight. Rivets B whitewashed their A team 10-0 whilst Brill A turned out their best squad, with only two games lost between them, and hammered former third team Bucks CC B 9-1. Sports H drew with Bucks CC D for whom Rod Payne was unbeaten and then beat Bucks CC C by seven games to three lifting themselves to mid table.

Meanwhile, Bucks CC C beat their D team 9-1 and Tring C beat bottom team Sports G seven games to three. Apart from the top two and bottom teams it is a close fought affair in this division with the order of teams changing every week following unpredictable results.

Risborough A and Quainton D share top spot in Division Three with Haddenham E looking to use their game in hand to join them. Risborough A only just beat bottom team Rivets C by six games to four while Quainton D did likewise at Bucks CC E. Haddenham E comfortably disposed of Brill B eight games to two and Longwick B beat Elmhurst by seven games to three despite Ben Hale’s maximum which included a first defeat for Patrick Walton.
