Tin-Tin Ho flew the flag for England in the singles at the European Youth Championships in Bratislava today.
She progressed to the last 16, though not without alarm as she three times had to come from a set down to beat opponent Solomiya Brateyko of Ukraine in the last 64.
Tin-Tin continued her march into the last 16, beating Tamara Pavcnik of Slovenia 4-1 after losing the first set. She now faces Daria Chernova of Russia.
In the Cadet Boys’ Singles, Alex Ramsden won his match in the round of 64 to reach the last 32, and then came from 3-1 down to take highly-rated German Tom Eise to seven before being eliminated in the decider.
Alex then partnered Harry Dai to a terrific victory in the doubles, reaching the last 16 by coming from 2-0 down to beat Israeli pair Ron Dimant & Guy Kouchly. They will face the top seeds, Rares Sipos & Cristian Pletea of Romania.
Helshan Weerasinghe and Tom Jarvis then matched that feat in the last game of the day to feature English players, beating a Swiss pair 3-1 in the Junior Boys’ Doubles. They next face Nolan Givone & Joe Seyfried of France.
It in some way made up for disappointment for both in the singles as they were eliminated in the last 64, as was Harry in the Cadet Boys’ Singles.
