Bribar St Neots Saints and Bribar Failand lead the men’s and women’s Premier Division standings respectively after the first weekend of the Veterans’ British League.

The St Neots squad of Chris Rogers, Ian Musk, Chris Bartram and Jason Ramage were in good form throughout the Derby Arena weekend, winning four and drawing 3-3 against Butterfly-Eck in round four.

That match saw them have to pass a serious test as they trailed 3-1 before Ramage beat Peter Bartram and Musk overcame Tomasz Rzesotko.

St Neots’ lead at the top is two points, with Butterfly-Eck in second place, having also dropped points in a 4-2 defeat to XLNT Draycott.

The picture in the women’s premier is much closer, as Failand lead only on sets difference from PPong in a division in which no fewer than seven matches ended all square at 3-3.

Both the leading pair have seven points, having notched two victories and three draws apiece, including a 3-3 scoreline when they faced each other in round three.

Three teams boast 100% records – The Musketeers in Men’s Division 1B; Men’s 2A leaders Foresters B and Women’s Division Two leaders Northern Belles.

Women’s Division One is a close battle, with only two points separating the top five teams, led by Lyncrest on sets difference ahead of MK Girls.

On the men’s side, Foresters A also top their league – Division 1A, while the other divisional leaders are Westfield Nomads (2B), XLNT Draycott fourths (3A), St Georges (3B), St Marys (4A) and Swerve (4B).

Sanya Clements of Premier Division side Five Counties leads a small number of players who retained a 100% record across all 10 matches. The only other woman with a perfect 10 was Linda Sanderson of Northern Belles.

In the men’s divisions, there were 10/10 records for Mike O’Driscoll (The Musketeers, 1B) and Ryan Stockham (St Georges, 3B), while Butterfly-Eck’s Costas Papantoniou’s 90% record was the best in the Premier Division.
