England men racked up two wins but there were two defeats for the women in the positional play-offs at the European Championships.

The men first saw off Serbia 3-0 before a closer 3-2 scoreline against Switzerland, with all three players used picking up some important victories.

David McBeath sealed the victory against Switzerland after England had twice been pegged back, while Tom Jarvis won both his matches – a filip after he had to withdraw from last weekend’s Europe Youth Top 10 with illness.

The women were edged out by Azerbaijan, despite leading 2-1 after victories for Tin-Tin Ho and Maria Tsaptsinos, before a 3-1 defeat to Serbia.

The men will play Finland on Saturday in the play-off for 25th-26th places, while the women face Lithuania for 23rd place.
