The 11th Bishop Auckland Bribar 2 star took place on February 12, and due to the popularity of the events the entry closed over a week early.

The U11 events took place first, with Gene McGhee finishing first, with Ben Mold second, and third and fourth places going to Harrison Shaw and Ashton Tallentire respectively, both playing in their first competition.

The U11 Girls’ winner was Katie Bates, second was Sophie Richardson, with Chloe Jenkins and Halle Tallentire third and fourth respectively, again both in their first competition and the latter the youngest in the tournament by two years.

Moke Warburton was consistently strong throughout the U13 Girls event, beating Amy Mold and Lola McGhee in three straight sets. Her final competitor Kirsty Maull had confidently beaten Bishop player Anya Milne in three straight sets and battled to beat Katie Bates in four, but couldn’t gain control of the final game which saw Moke take the trophy in three.

An all-Ormesby final saw Eve Witterick take the U13 Girls’ Plate event against team-mate Rebecca Savage. Rebecca fought for her place in the final taking it to five sets against Genevieve Holchaks, Eve beat both Chloe Jenkins and Reem Rassem in three straight sets. Reem just missing out on the main event via three-way countback.

Yorkshire was well represented at the Bishop Auckland 2* and they didn’t disappoint with a Yorkshire final in the U13 Boys’ event. Ehsan Jawadi took out Sean Stobart in five sets to meet Bishop player Alex Robinson in the final. Alex had beaten youngster Harrison Shaw and then come back from one set down against Sam Lowe to win and reach the final. However, Ehsan was far too strong and beat Alex, winning in three.

Yorkshire also took the U13 Boys’ single event, Hull player Charlie Turner fought for his trophy in five sets, having earlier beaten team-mates Lennon Maughan and Che Gouldbourne, with Che having beaten Luke Mitchell in the same way. U13 Boys’ runner-up Ben Piggott reached the final by knocking out Adam Szabo in the semis.

Aalhad Kulkarni made his way to the final of the Cadet Boys’ Plate in fine form, only dropping one set in the event, however he was not strong enough to beat Bishop’s Troy Maddison, who seemed to have lost his way, winning the first set before dropping the next two. He managed to swing it back his way however, winning the Cadet Boys’ Plate.

The final went the way of the seedings without too much upset in the Cadet Boys’ singles, with Kieran Wardell comfortably coming out on top over Adam Webster in the final. The semi-finals saw Kieran beating Adam Gent and Adam beating surprise of the day Ben Savage, who took out third seed Charlie Turner in the quarters.

The Cadet Girls was full of surprises: Eve Witterick impressed in the Plate, beating much higher ranked Swerve player Lola McGhee in the final. The main event saw Moke Warburton take her second title, beating Darlington’s Katie Wray in five sets.

The Junior Girls’ event was slightly more predictable, with top seed Rana Rassem beating Madaline Dunn in the semi-final before taking on Katie Peacock in the final and coming out on top in five sets. The Plate final was an all Bishop affair and more surprising, with unranked Courtney Mole beating her team-mate Emma Smith in five sets.

Junior Boys’ Plate final saw Jamie Peacock vs Matthew Westworth, with Jamie coming out on top after dropping the first set. The Junior Boys’ Singles went with the seedings. Kieran Wardell took out Jack Jacomb in four sets in the semis, whilst Will Dobinson took out fourth seed Jack Dewar in three. Will and Kieran battled it out in five long sets at the final, before Will was declared the overall winner.

The next Bishop Auckland 2* is on the April 9th – early entry advised due to the oversubscription of recent tournaments.
