The Senior Premier Division of the British League moved into the second half of its season this weekend and Drumchapel and Ormesby continued their dominance.
It was another clean sweep for Drumchapel when they played Fusion at home and won 8-0.
He Zhi Wen won both his games against Mohammed Emran Hussain and Adeoye Adewale in straight sets, continuing his unbeaten run in this season of the British League.
Hang Yen Che played his first match for Drumchapel against James Smith and won 3-1 (11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 11-5). The club are looking in good stead ahead of the next round where they will meet Ormesby for the second time this season.
Fusion were off on the back foot from the offset as they were down to just three players. This meant the club had to forfeit a point which went to their opponent’s newest training partner Hang Yeh Che.
Fusion are still positioned in the middle of the table with seven points but after Cardiff City’s win this weekend they are only just in front.
Cardiff took on North Ayrshire, clinching the victory with a 5-3 score and this now pushes the club up to six points.
There were a number of close five-set games that Cardiff City took advantage of. Dean Cundy took home man of the match after producing some spectacular performances and securing the two league points after beating Richard Main 11-9 in the fifth set.
North Ayrshire will be frustrated that the club lost three out of the four matches that went to the fifth set.
Christopher Main put in a standout performance for the club winning both his games against Pouyan Javanmar in straight sets and Daniel O’Connell in a tense five-set battle, taking the last set 11-5.
North Ayrshire will have been disappointed not to have picked up a point as they now fall 2 points behind Cardiff City.
Meanwhile, Cardiff are in a strong position to challenge BATTS for the number three spot on the table.
BATTS were hit with their second defeat of the season when they lost to the league’s current number two Ormesby in front of a large home crowd.
The club lost 7-1, with Helshan Weerasinghe taking that one winning game when beating Filip Szymanski 3-2 (8-11, 11-4, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7).
Weerasinghe’s other game was against Viktor Brodd which he narrowly lost 8-11, 6-11, 11-7, 9-11, but he still took home man of the match.
For Ormesby, Darius Knight sailed through both his matches against Peter Cleminson and Adam Nutland, winning both in straight sets.
The club remain one point behind Drumchapel ahead of their second match against each other in the next round.
