David McBeath’s reward for reaching the main draw of the Swedish Open is a chance to take on the world No 24.

McBeath, who upset world No 105 Eonrae Cho in the group stage, will play Maharu Yoshimura of Japan, the No 7 seed, at 12.45pm UK time on Friday.

He will follow Sam Walker and Liam Pitchford into action – they are both due on court at noon, Walker against Portugal’s Joao Monteiro, world ranked 34, and 20th seed Pitchford facing world No 124 Harald Andersson from the host nation.

Today, England’s involvement in the under-21 singles ended as Tom Jarvis, Helshan Weerasinghe and Luke Savill bowed out in the group stage, while Walker was defeated in the last 32.

It is also all over in the doubles as McBeath & Jarvis, were beaten in the second preliminary round, having had a walkover in the first. Savill and partner Chris Wheeler of Scotland were beaten in the first preliminary round.
