Steve Welch has won the Pat Smith School Sport Official Award at the Sports Officials UK Awards.

Steve was nominated having this year, alongside Table Tennis England staff, revamped updated the format of the UK School Games.

He has been the referee since the games first started and this year he has trained a young deputy referee from Northern Ireland. Young officials have been involved in the umpiring of the event.

Steve received his award at the annual presentation ceremony at Chesford Grange Hotel in Warwick.

Stuart Sherlock was shortlisted in the Performance Official of the Year category, in a year when he was Referee for the Olympic table tennis in Rio.

As well as overseeing the draw and the Games themselves, he organised training of South American officials for the event.
