With Group B of the Leicester League’s Elbow Tankard done and dusted it needed a dramatic evening to decide Group A when the two matches were played side by side with three of the four teams in a position to move through to the semi-finals stage depending on what happened on the other table.

KP Nutters had enough points to go through and needed a win to be sure of top position, but it was Nomads, needing a win to stand any sort of chance of progress who finally came through after reaching 6-6 in a tight contest with four singles remaining, eventually winning 12-8.

Most successful player was Nomads’ Trevor Hawkins who won all four of his singles plus two of the four doubles, receiving good support from Cliff Smith and Wes Glauds who won three apiece.  For Nutters Steve Bessant won 3/4 singles and two doubles.

For Nomads now to progress it needed Knighton The Town to lose and their match against Desford Dynamos was tight at 4-4 until the doubles which were taken 3-1 by the Town to begin a devastating spell which took them to not only a 14-6 victory but into the top slot which means they will be at home in the semis.

For the Town Simon Aldis has had an excellent campaign and this match continued the good form as he won five from six while Alec Downes won four and Chris Parmar-Saville two from four.

The semi final draw is: Park and Ride v KP Nutters, Knighton The Town v Vicars.
