More than 150 players are competing at the U10-U13 Nationals at the University of Central Lancashire, with boys and girls battling for four singles and two doubles titles.

Despite the shift in age groups from last year’s U11-U14 format, there are three returning champions – Jamie Liu, Jasmin Wong and Ruby Chan.

Reading’s Liu won both U11 and U12 crowns in Sheffield last season and will be defending the older title this year, in which he is top seed. He is also seeded No 2, behind Amirul Hussain, in the U13 age group.

Wong, from Hull, also won two titles last time – U12 and U13 – but on this occasion has only the U13 crown to go for, and she is the top seed.

Chan is the No 1 ranked player in the U12 Girls’ Singles and will be looking to add that to the U11 title she won last year.

The top seed on the boys’ half of the U11 age group is Bertie Kelly, while Sophie Chiang holds the equivalent girls’ ranking. The top seeds in the U10s are Connor Green and Lucy Gent.

The two Under-12 National Cup winners, Thomas Rayner and Scarlett O’Neil, will also be in the field and will each be going for both the U12 and U13 titles.

In the doubles, Josh Weatherby & Ben Fillingham lead the seeds in the boys’ event, while Chan and Darcie Proud do so in the girls’.
